actually fucks me up knowing that the hwang donghyuk the creator of squid game lost teeth due to stress while filming s1, did not want to make a s2, and only did it bc he got severely underpaid and earned zero residuals, royalties, or bonuses from netflix for s1.

Anyway the fact it was an underpaid food service worker that turned in the alleged CEO shooter for the reward money says A Whole Lot about America in itself. Billionaires make more than $50k just scratching their behinds but it's life-changing to someone who works at mcdonalds so they sold him out.

I don't know who needs to know this, but Pro Publica has an online thing that will format a letter to your US health insurance company to demand the records behind a claim denial. (which the insurance is then legally required to provide in most cases)

The idea of “social murder” is super useful, and we need to get comfortable using it. Engels is the best, man - reading him feels like finally acknowledging the obvious reality everyone wants you to ignore

if you are at all curious as to why the entirety of south korea just said "lol fuck no" to the president declaring martial law this book may be a good place to start- the horrors of gwangju are still very much swimming in the memories of south koreans
Human Acts - Han Kang

devoured this in just a couple sittings. easily my favorite read of the year. kang perfectly captures the lingering scars of the gwangju uprising, and how the wound of one person can splinter and web, both entangled and connecting those left in its wake

really glad i gave dandadan a second shot, the show's been a ton of fun. the first alien scene turned me away years ago, but thankfully it hasn't done anything like that again. momo's up there with maka albarn in my favorite shounen female leads, and I love seeing her and okarun being giant doofuses

45,020 reporters across all outlets.

For perspective, this is the number of people employed by these companies:

• Target: 415,000
• Alphabet (Google): 181,269
• Apple: 164,000
• Tesla: 140,473
• Waffle House: 40,000

So…reporters just edge out WaHo employees. So we’ve got that going for us.
The United States now has:
• 45,020 reporters
• 275,550 public relations specialists

For every reporter, there are now six PR people.
