Ambedo

n. A kind of melancholic trance in which you become completely absorbed in vivid sensory details; raindrops skittering down a window, tall trees leaning in the wind, clouds of cream in your coffee. Briefly soaking in the experience of being alive, an act that is done purely for its own sake.

Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

Great, our cyberpunk dystopia is also an urban fantasy where we confound the soulless Fae with poems and riddles.

Video game where you play a fae, all you do is make a series of deals and promises.

You start out with a pinecone. You win when you've eliminated and consigned to fates worse than death the entire population of the mountain town on the edge of your forest.

I for one was massively disappointed to learn that the 'Toronto subway deer' just refers to an extinct deer (Torontoceros hypogaeus), a partial skull of which was discovered during excavation for the Toronto subway.

I was hoping it would be some kind of uncannily impossible cryptid.

When multiple supernova explosions and stellar winds combine, you get something super!

Below is a raku vase inspired by the Orion–Eridanus Superbubble, where smoke, flame, and drifting starlight meet on clay.

I was getting absolutely inert and nonsocial from the amount of stress I was under and one round with nitrous oxide at the dentist has revived me.

Reading articles where they talk about how they're totally trying to get it to the public as soon as they learn to upcharge it as a pill is maddening.

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

I have almost run through all of my silk filament (I do not use silk normally but it works great for these whistles!) but I'm gonna keep printing whistles.

If you want to donate filament to the cause, the stuff labeled FOR WHISTLES will, you know, become whistles.

www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/...
Two thousand whistles packed up and heading out the door tomorrow. Thank you @moryan.bsky.social for hooking me up with the person who can use these in Chicago! 💕

(and thank you to discord for buying me enough filament to keep making them!)

I’m getting a couple dental crowns Tuesday, I have a stye, I’m having a POTS flare up, I’m going to physical therapy, I still have other long COVID symptoms from last July, and I’m doing a lot better than a lot of Americans because for now I can afford my healthcare.

Something I’ve noticed is there seems to be a sort of pervasive assumption that the status quo has gravity. That there’s a natural, comfortable way things should be and that deviations from the normal state of the world will correct themselves in time.

But as a paleontologist, I know this is false.
