SCOOP—In August, nearly 200 current/former FEMA staffers published the Katrina Declaration, a whistleblower letter detailing all the dangers posed by current leadership.

All current employees were put on indefinite leave, and now I've learned one has been fired in violation of federal protections:

From the MN Society for Professional Journalists: St. Paul police shot three photojournalists (MPR, Reuters, Sahan Journal) with "less lethal" munitions during an ICE operation yesterday. One had to go to the hospital. They say they were specifically targeted by St. Paul police.
MNSPJ condemns St. Paul police attacks on journalists The Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists strongly condemns attacks on journalists by law enforcement on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, during a federal operation in St. Paul. At least three local photojournalists were injured by less-lethal munitions deployed by St. Paul police officers while covering the story. One was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. All three journalists were clearly identified as press with badges and/or vests, in addition to having cameras in hand, clearly at work. All three photojournalists and multiple other local journalists on scene were also injured by chemical irritants. Kerem Yücel, with MPR News, was hit by a less-lethal munition in the shoulder and was transported to a hospital by ambulance. He has since been released and is recovering. Tim Evans, a freelance photojournalist with Reuters, was struck in the stomach with a pepper ball round. Aaron Nesheim, a photojournalist with Sahan Journal, was struck in the head with a pepper ball round. Evans and Nesheim did not require hospitalization. The three journalists hit by munitions shared with MNSPJ that they believe they were targeted by law enforcement for doing their jobs. Photojournalists are on the frontlines of documenting history and it is imperative that they are kept safe and their First Amendment rights are protected. Attacking journalists sends a message to both journalists and everyday citizens that their First Amendment rights will not be respected. The First Amendment protects the rights of journalists to report on their communities and provide information that communities need — information that, on Tuesday, was not transparently available from any law enforcement agency. We demand answers from St. Paul city leadership about why the city’s police department attacked our colleagues and a commitment to seeing that this will never happen again.

DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2

All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

Kamala Harris’s nomination at the 2024 Democratic National Convention was both unusual and historic. Not only was she the first woman of color to be nominated for the presidency by a major party, but she also emerged as the party’s choice without having competed in any nominating contests, an outcome made possible by Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the candidacy. National nominating conventions are important opportunities for parties and candidates to draw media attention, and this coverage shapes the political impact of conventions. This was especially important in 2024, given the shortened nature of the Harris campaign. Using a sample of newspapers and TV news programs, we find that the media over emphasized controversial issues such as the war in Gaza and immigration while under emphasizing other substantive policy areas such as the economy. In addition, the coverage tended to amplify attention to so-called “women’s issues” and downplay Harris’s patriotic appeals. These findings highlight the divergence between what the candidate emphasized and what the media reported, with important implications for public perception of the campaign and Harris’s policy priorities.
