As a child in the 80s, I only received a subset of information: if you get rabies, you have get a NEEDLE in your STOMACH!!!

It wasn't until I was nearly 40 that I received the rest of the relevant information: if you don't get that needle, you WILL die!

Yes I would but that's because I happen to think the Ring novels are a real slog. They bored me as a kid and are, charitably, not my cup of tea as an adult. I vastly prefer the movies, which I think work better as vehicles for the story. This is, I acknowledge, a controversial stance.
Genuinely curious and not trying to start an argument: Would you say the same thing if someone recommended Lord of the Rings to a young fantasy reader?

Oof, Tom Lehrer and Cleo Laine on the same day. That’s a huge chunk of my musical childhood right there.

Young idiot mini Aussie started getting a bit intense toward other dogs in the dog park, so this sensible girl grabbed his dragging leash and applied the brakes. “Whoa dude, chill!”

Lovely thread
About fifty years ago, NASA strapped a message in a bottle to a rocket and flung it into the deep dark
It wasn’t supposed to go this far, but it did. Long past its mission, it’s still out there so far away now that a simple hello takes a day to reach it, and another day to hear if it says hello back

Growing up, I dreamed of being an editorial cartoonist, so this WaPo/Ann Telnaes fight hit me harder than the last brouhaha over Bezos’s election endorsement stance. It finally pushed me to cancel my subscription (only pausing for a second because I had such a good rate and was sad to see it go!)
