No-strings-attached, zero-means-testing, no-questions-asked cash payouts have been proven, over and over again, to be the most effective form of charity/aid going.

It gets people in housing, and it saves the state money. We know this. It's fact, not theory.
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

Dr. Steve (@steveburgess53.bsky.social) has been somewhat puzzled by all the Epstein focus. Why are Trump’s activities a distraction from Epstein? Dr. Steve would argue that the reverse is more the case. #uspoli

Of course not, says Dr. Steve. Just another sleazy moment.

Fiction Standout #6:

Hemlock and Silver by @tkingfisher.com is an original take on the Snow White story. It features a gloriously neurodivergent protagonist - who is not the Snow White character, and it plays with standard Snow White tropes in a refreshingly nonstandard way.

Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

I wrote a comic called THREE about the Spartan worker-class, the Helots, and talked to a bunch of PhDs in the field. My take-away was how unwilling anyone was to state something was true firmly.

After that, I'm even more more wary of Hot Take History online.

That you're sure makes me unsure.
Podcasts and "deep dive" media will try to convince you that you *now* know things, thanks to them.

A PhD, especially one with archival, observational, or observational components, will definitely convince you that you know next to nothing, thanks to the available resources & one's predecessors.

To a great degree we’re dealing with the fallout from a generation of men who got lucky once during a specific moment in tech evolution, made to feel as gods, but are all now suffering their mid-life crises having accomplished nothing else of note.

These men have made nothing other than money.
i have seen exactly zero evidence to suggest that peter thiel is anything other than a dumbass who got lucky once
