NEW: Amid concerns over the Biden administration's regulation of the crypto industry, billionaire tech investor Marc Andreessen, a longtime Democrat, donated more than $5 million to groups supporting Trump ahead of the 2024 election.

Since then, he's gotten what he called for: a hollowed-out CFPB.
Tech Billionaire Marc Andreessen Bet Big on Trump. It’s Paying Off for Silicon Valley.
The Trump administration’s gutting of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has been good for venture capitalists like Andreessen, who previously accused the agency of “terrorizing” fintech startups and crypto companies.

“"So, you're saying a third of the stock market is tied up in seven AI companies that have no way to become profitable and that this is a bubble that's going to burst and take the whole economy with it?"

I said, "Yes, that's right."”
It’s nice to imagine a time in, say, five years from now where we recover the joy of humans making things again.

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

Ellison & Andreessen also funded Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover, so this is kind of like capturing Boardwalk & Park Place. 1/

Since they have actually let me into the US, you can listen to me talk at #4S2025 about "Exit from the Valley" in person.

The story I'll be telling is way less networked than you would think - it's about soil, brick and mortar. And it is a story of citizen protest halting big tech mega projects.
