“The billionaire class has sought to convince those making $30-an-hour that their enemies are those earning $20-an-hour. They want the people to fight amongst ourselves so that we remain distracted from the work of remaking a long, broken system.”

True is truth. Mistakes happen, bad sources, disagreement on sources too just don't lie. That's not OK
People that spread misinformation suck.

I don't care what your cause is, or what team you're on.

BREAKING: The Trump administration says it will now pay SNAP benefits but reduced by 50% to any household in the program

We could fund over four months of SNAP benefits with the $40 billion Argentina received.

No one with a full time job should ever need benefits of any kind except in emergencies and ideally they'd be able to afford private insurance
Companies especially large ones want socialized costs, private profits
That needs to end though getting it without mass layoffs is going to require coercion
The fact a *single* Amazon full-time employee requires SNAP benefits should be a crime. The fact Amazon is the largest employer of SNAP recipients is a disgrace. Jeff Bezos shouldnt be that rich; he should be in jail.

The Republicans are more diverse and comfy with it than most think.

2024 U.S. Presidential election, nearly half of Hispanic voters (48%) backed the Republican candidate, Donald Trump

In 2016 primary candidates included 2 Latinos, a Woman and an African American

True but not funding a program is not a war crime.
Nations are not required to have welfare systems under international law
Also US also has only a resent tradition of positive liberty
and as no one is prevented by force from obtaining food, its not a crime
Its still terrible callous policy

Well learned some things today

I'm not discussing gender issues again. Not a bad conversation just a pointless one, benefited no one and as was said in Firefly paraphrased here

It was beginning to damage my calm

Ah well. Live and learn

End the 6 week paid vacation you’ve taken. Join your Democratic colleagues and negotiate an end to this shutdown.

If we don't want EBT used for soda how about a little cash aid on top of it so that can be used instead

Its the proverbial camels nose under the tend for a Basic Income Guarantee which we'll need soon enough anyway, well if we want a future society
I don't resent poor people who use food stamps to buy another soft drink.

I resent rich people who take away the funds for food stamps to buy another yacht.

there is no hierarchy of citizenship.

there are only citizens. All citizens are imbued with the same legal protections and rights in the U.S.

Some citizens born, some citizens are naturalized, both are fully and equally citizens.

the end.

Why do people buy pizza with EBT?

Because cauliflower is five dollars a head and you can buy five pizzas with the same money.

It’s not that folks don’t want to be healthy. They can’t afford to be healthy.

Food banks need money more than food!

They have access to buying things cheaper than you do, and they know what the community needs better than we do!

Making SNAP a proto Social Credit/Basic Income is a very interesting idea
Anyway, SNAP should be universal. Just like school lunches in NYC. Not everyone needs it to survive but everybody gets it, no means testing.

There should also be a lot fewer regulations on what you can buy with SNAP and discounts, not bans, on hot prepared foods.

Nagging suspicion that the US economy is riding on a combo of:

-if we just build enough data centers, superintelligence will emerge and tell us how to make money
-the benefits of corruption and ending rule of law will be large and widespread
-Who cares, I can ride this upswing and get out later

This is the right way to do it. If you don't want the government involved don't take their money
The Python Software Foundation rejected a $1.5 million U.S. government grant because it required them to renounce all diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

As many reasons people have to dislike the President at least he was willing to use the nuclear option and told his guys to get the bill passed

The person holding this up is Senator John Thune of South Dakota

I understand his reasons but still, food over politics. People matter
The leader of the US executive branch isn't doing his job. The leader of the House of Representatives isn't doing his job. The Senate and Supreme Court are sitting on their hands.

THIS IS NOT A GOVERNMENT. THIS IS A STICKUP.
