Guille’s tiny squeaks can melt hearts. 💛 After breakfast, her sweet vocalizations sparked a chorus with Maia and Bambi—squeaks, trumpets, and rumbles. Moments like these show how free she feels to express herself. Read more: https://globalelephants.org/a-few-squeaks-from-guille/

“We should leave these places behind, there aren’t enough people there for there to be a future.”

NO. WE SHOULD IMAGINE AND FIND WAYS TO SPREAD OUT RESOURCES AND SOCIAL SAFETY NETS. TAX THE RICH.

“Did they grow up under a rock??”

Yes. And the rock was probably put there on purpose by men who wanted uneducated people to control.

This is why we don’t leave any state or county or town behind. Nobody deserves to grow up under a rock. Especially one they would never have the power to move.

"Pat, why do you carry that ridiculous 600mm lens on long hikes?"

Buddy, I can see mountains reflected in the eyes of a trailside pika.

I had a debate with a co-worker about the trolley problem. I said I would sabotage the trolley somehow to stop it. He demanded that I had only two choices. I think giving people imaginary binary choices is a sign of a scam

Today’s hope:
Federal judge has ordered the release of Liam Ramos (the bunny hat boy) and his father. A brief and rather remarkable order. Clearly written to be shared widely, so please do. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

And again, if time/expense is an issue with getting your titers checked, if you walk into an American pharmacy and say you’re not sure when/if you had an MMR (bc srs, how many Gen Xers still have our handwritten baby book for confirmation?), they can *very likely* redo it cheap or free!
Reminder that if you were vaccinated for measles between the late 1950-1980s, you got one dose, not the two doses that are recommended now. You will think you’re protected, but you may not be! Get your titers checks or get a booster.

Do one of the things that makes you feel better, because if you aren't doing any of that, you will run down. Today I did some writing. I'm a writer, & if I don't write, I run down. It's very easy for me to forget this, despite decades of knowing it. And so I am here to remind you to do your things.

to extend—it’s called staggered breathing, and the thing about resting is we’re not all doing it at the same time anyway, so take your rest
in a choir, if enough people are singing, individuals can pause to take a breath when necessary, and the song still goes on.
Everyone i talk to feels like they are working too hard given how much is breaking down. We need us here for the long haul. It's ok to not finish that thing today. To try again tomorrow. To ask for more time. To let up the pressure on yourself and let someone else step in.

I think a lot of us get hope wrong. Hope, I do not believe, is an emotion. In fact, hope makes space for lots of emotions to exist alongside it. You can DO hope scared, angry, sad etc...

Hope doesn't find us. We make hope through action and struggle. It's a practice of living and is re-made daily.

It's weird how after every good thing/gain (even if we don't call it a victory) people circle up to insist we shouldn't celebrate. Celebrating is not how people give up, in my experience; believing we can't win, never win, and have no power is (with a side of joylessness).
I don't keep doomers in my feed but since apparently some folks do: "celebrate each and every win, loudly" is Organizing 101

as long as we’re not *all* dipping out at the same time, it’s fine and also good to take breaks!
