These guys love to talk about "mind viruses." The most pernicious one I know is contrarianism. Try having some innate beliefs or values or politics rather than just saying the opposite of whatever the people you decided you don't like are saying!

A significant portion of content these like-minded billionaires pump into the ether is about how George Soros, college professors, public school teachers, and journalists are supposedly colluding to brainwash you.

This is horrendous, gratuitous cruelty. They're doing it to drive Trans teenagers to suicide. That's the only possible reason. All the deaths from measles and what have you weren't enough. They want Trans people dead.
Because, again, the federal fucking government is trying to stop companies from selling binders. Not because of any concerns about safety or possible harm, but specifically because trans men use them to mitigate dysphoria.

They're saying this openly, explicitly.

“it’s reasonable to ask questions about trans girls in sports” was always intended to mainstream transphobia.

It’s absurd that people fell for it. Democrats are constantly letting oppressors set the terms of debate instead of just saying “no, fuck you.”

i was especially struck by these paragraphs, which rang very true to me. libs who grew up around conservatives aren't embarrassed to be liberals--or confused about what conservatives want. there's a certain kind of elite media man, on the other hand--

The reason this shift will probably never happen is above in the thread: it would require a silent admission by many tenured professors that they were not the best; merely the lucky.

They suspect, deep down, they couldn't have made it in adjunct land.

Too painful. Easier to hire Harvard again.

The problem! Is that! There are no jobs! For anybody!!!! So then the jobs that do exist hire people who can teach things they *don’t already have someone to teach* which often means things like race, which have been long-term blind spots in these departments! Use your brain!
This is 100% incorrect as the explanation for why someone obsessed with Roman *military* history is not being hired.

The job market is vanishingly small, and programs keep cranking out PhDs to apply to jobs that they simply cannot get- and they often spend years warning them that the jobs will not exist! And then the jobless blame race and gender, when the issue is really that they imagined they’d be an exception!

there is a certain condescension in the idea that “racism should be publicly unacceptable and come with consequences” is an attack on the “working class.”

This is written with a child’s (lack of) understanding of workers rights, at-will employment, and human dignity. As someone who has argued forever against at-will employment and for workers’ right to dignity, it is dismaying but not surprising to see the worst version of an important argument here
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:
Why the Cinnabon Story Doesn’t Make Me Happy
The left should be promoting working-class solidarity, not delighting in seeing workers summarily dismissed.

I admire the hell out of LBJ—not that he wasn’t an absolute POS in his personal life—but for his political instincts and his genuine commitment to the poor (because he was a poor kid too)
It’s 2025 and children of color are still having the same experience. Even worse, they have to fear being picked up and separated from their parents.

These children will never be the same. I hate these disgusting people.
There is no sight that more efficiently puts the lie to immigration “court” than the common sight of children “representing themselves.” Children too small to climb into the chair, children in pajamas who don’t know where they are, children not yet old enough to speak.

it’s prob obvious but the genius simplicity of Gandhi’s “be the change you want to see in the world,” has been totally illustrated to me by the trump era. You must positively advocate for the things that matter to you—otherwise the people who believe in everything you don’t face no opposition
