This should be the biggest story in the country right now. The sitting US President was extorting state lawmakers from his own party by threatening to withhold public money if they didn’t gerrymander for him.

I don’t know how else to say it…

Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?

This perfectly encapsulates how I feel living in the US. The republican party is an insane death cult, the democratic party is 3 corporations in a trench coat, and the "socialists" are just the completely normal left-wing capitalists you'd find in any of 2 dozen European nations.
Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’
Critics of New York City’s mayor-elect have said his pledges of free bus service and universal childcare are unrealistic, but in Europe it’s a given

Traditional American politics is premised on the notion that sometimes you lose and sometimes you win and you have to deal with that.

But Trumpism is premised on the notion that any result where you don’t win is illegitimate, unlawful, fraud, criminal.

You can’t negotiate with people like that.

Can you think of a single movie in which there is a video from the government denouncing its political opponents playing on a loop in public spaces in which that government was the good guy?
A new Noem video is being played at airports trashing Democrats.

Will ICE send guys to Boston looking for red hair and listening for brogues? Or stake out delis in Chicago to see who buys a kielbasa?
No. This is about profiling people by skin color and language.

I was able to accurately predict how badly and quickly America would devolve under this administration, but what I really can't predict is if enough Americans will take action as opposed to staying comfortable and covering their ears and eyes, before it's too late to do anything meaningful at all.

My prediction is that in that scenario, he blames the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which puts out employment data. Calls them corrupt, run by Democrats, out to get him. Fires people there, insists their numbers cannot be trusted, White House puts out its own fictitious data to make Trump look good

Apparently, inflation is bad, but we must impose tariffs to raise the cost of cheap imports so people buy expensive American goods. We can re-shore manufacturing, but to be cost competitive, we have to fully automate factories, replacing American workers with robots.

you may always want to get out of jury duty, but have you considered you might be able to issue justice to police who use excessive force? cuz ive done that and it ruled. personally i think everyone should do it once to get a better understanding how the courts work; its *extremely* informative.

I will always remember an interview with a US Presidential advisor who realized there was not another room, where the real people in charge with the real information and real authority worked.

It was just them and few coworkers. They were The Room.

And they were making the decisions for millions.
Conspiracy theories take hold because it's much more reassuring to believe that an evil cabal is running everything than that nobody is running everything and every human from the poorest child to the President of the United States is just winging it.
