🚨Let's treat childcare like infrastructure.

In a new report written with the brilliant Mandu Reid, I am calling for Universal Free Childcare to be moved forward as serious policy.

This is a big vision and I hope others will come to share it.

Very excited to take up this role at @sussex.ac.uk & look forward to working with colleagues & students to help amplify the hugely important work the University is doing on climate, nature and environmental sustainability eg the very first undergraduate degree in climate justice starting in 2026 💚
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Caroline Lucas, former leader of the Green Party and MP for Brighton Pavilion, as the University's first Professor of Practice in Environmental Sustainability at the Sussex School for Progressive Futures (SSPF).

If a chemical is too harmful to use here, it shouldn’t be used anywhere.
I’ll be asking the government what steps it is taking internationally to prevent this.

Zohran Mamdani focused on childcare costs to win the race for New York Mayor, and the UK needs to have the same conversation about how no-cost childcare could help more than just parents.

Can see why Labour waited for Lords stages before adding THIS to the Crime and Policing Bill.

Extending protest suppression to include vague ‘cumulative’ impacts (that could include OTHER protests!) will clearly be misused by police.

Lords must oppose this attack on our rights.
🚨 BREAKING: The government has tabled their plan to restrict repeat protests.

Demonstrations could now banned based on the 'cumulative disruption' that previous protests have caused in the area - regardless of if they have been organised by the same people or not.

This is worse than we feared.

I have updated my official log of lobbying and policy meetings for the past three months.

This should be a basic requirement for all MPs. We all need to know who those who serve us meet with, and in whose interests they act.

Amid horrific violence it is clear the LNER train crew acted with incredible professionalism and bravery. The actions of the injured guard were heroic, and the coordination with blue lights to get to the best place for help to reach passengers was vital. Full respect for these workers. 🙏👏

It was a pleasure to work with fantastic campaigners to make sure the Govt heard loud and clear about the deadly air pollution gaps in this Bill.

They voted down all my changes, but LibDem MPs voted with me, and we will bring them back with cross-party support at the next stage.
A huge thank you to @sianberry.bsky.social for championing clean air throughout the House of Commons Committee Stage of the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill. 👏

This Bill is a real opportunity to ensure that Metro Mayors prioritise reducing #AirPollution and its harm to our health.

I have met Brighton businesses who have very successfully switched to a four-day week.

Productivity, morale, staff retention are all up.

Exciting research from Sussex University has shown it to be brain-altering! Positively changing anxiety, depression, stress and sleep quality.
The four-day week is already working.

It’s time for the government to catch up.

Now it's time to tackle the next crisis facing renters - affordability. That must include rent controls.

The pattern is familiar: get a scheme approved, then apply to remove the social homes.

We need stricter rules to stop this and ensure every development delivers the affordable homes communities need.

Exciting to see a real conversation about universal free childcare starting up in New York, thanks to Zohran Mamdani’s campaign for Mayor.

This Government is threatening to blow our carbon budget just to fuel Heathrow’s greedy business model.

Instead it should be listening to the people who want their bills cut, their water in public hands, and their homes made safe and warm.

My motion against mandatory digital ID has gained a lot of cross-party support.

Combined with the Govt's alarming new restrictions on the right to protest freely, these plans represent an enormous threat to civil liberties.
