I’m so tired of this. The entire opposition to what the right calls “DEI” is their belief that only white men are deserving of anything. Say that.

It’s not eliminating DEI. This is about erasing anyone who is not a white man from American history. Just say that.
Arlington National Cemetery has scrubbed information about prominent Black, Hispanic and female service members and topics such as the Civil War from its website, part of an effort across the Defense Department to remove all references to diversity, equity and inclusion from its online presence.

If your country is doing things you find shameful, please find a way of channelling that shame into action. Shame makes us retreat - and that punishes the victims of our country’s actions a second time, because it renders the people who care inactive. Please don’t give cruelty that second victory.

Re Zelensky at the WH, yet again, feminists and trauma/abuse- informed thinkers are years ahead of political analysts.

There is no acceptable affect, no way to charm an abuser, and no “deal” other than playing very very dead that would change how Trump and his flying monkey Vance behaved.

Black scholars argued this incessantly after the war. Britain killed 10’s of millions of Indians, Belgium enslaved and genocided the Congo, France slaughtered its Algerian subjects. Nazi Germany was the logical extension of US and European colonialism, not an aberration.

One of the problems with the lawsuits is gonna be that the “policy” is going to change, daily, hourly even. It already has, today.

It’s hard to sustain a lawsuit against the premise of the thing when the facts of the thing change every minute.

I’ve said it before, will doubtless say it again: These folks are going to be permanently resentful because they’re seeking political power as a substitute for cultural power, and it’s never going to give them what they actually want.
I love how far afield this is from any problem government can address. “Now that Trump won people have to like and agree with me and not tell me I suck anymore.” bsky.app/profile/yash...
2. “For the last four years, very acutely, and I know it preceded these four years as well, but there's been kind of a pressing down. A pressing down and kind of limiting what people can say.”

I know it's hard for Western countries to look to the rest of the world as role models for anything, but damn, Western politicians could really learn a thing or two from South Koreans about going all in to defend democracy

(specifically thinking of Germany & the US rn, but I'm sure there's more)
Democratic Party aides are shown spraying fire extinguishers at the infiltrating army to keep them back.

I just want to add that I am a South Korean citizen and Seoul resident and I am *extremely* proud of South Korean democracy and this president has violated something I hold sacrosanct

Normalize saying “I need to think about that.”
I want to write about something very stupid that happened to me yesterday. I don’t want to do it in a self-serving way but I do think it illustrates a good point. As the pardon news broke I was asked a question about it and I didn’t have a clear answer so I just said I had to think about it.

By and large, the best thing you can do for any nonprofit in any field is to send them a check without any restrictions.

Do you trust the organization? Then let them allocate it. Don't make it hard.

If you don't trust an organization, then send it to another one you do.
Tis the season for helpful posts about what food shelves need so here's my advice:

If your kid's school is doing a Canned Food Drive or a movie theater is doing a special movie screening with a can of food in lieu of admission: give a can.

Otherwise: JUST GIVE MONEY.
