I like how he separates useful machine learning applications from LLM/Gen "AI" - quotes bc it's ALL machine learning. I read an interview with a tech bro that was hopeful about the possibility of actual artificial intelligence some day. But they're still trying to sell it like a finished product.
Apparently I'm doing this -- my open letter to that open latter about AI in writing and publishing. I emerged from Hibernation Week to write it, so god only knows how much sense it makes. But at least a human wrote it, so that's nice.

I've never seen the movies, but I am equally tired of the flood of articles with every release.
Here's an interesting article re: the Avatar cultural impact debate, with this particularly trenchant line: "Unlike multiple actors associated with Star Wars and Marvel, no one on the Avatar cast is receiving death threats."

Per Craig Ferguson: When you're about to say something, ask yourself

1. Does this need to be said

2. Does this need to be said by me

3. Does this need to be said by me right now

It's amazing how asking these will get keep you out of trouble (that is, if you actually have sense to begin with)
I’ve been trying very hard to not be an asshole as I get older. Often, that just means keeping my mouth shut and nodding along.

It wasn't a religious holiday in the days of curfew in Korea, it was an act of resistance.

Here's an antifascist Christmas carol from No Rules Tonight.
