I learned so much from listening to her and other disabled people about the perniciousness of ableism. I learned how to check my own ableism and learned the language to talk about it with other able bodied people because of her.

It is an honor to have been alive at the same time as Alice Wong.
Alice Wong, a writer and activist who was born with muscular dystrophy and who fought relentlessly for equal rights and access for people with disabilities, died on Friday. She was 51. nyti.ms/4r9WqEr

We are still accelerating in the wrong direction.
The RATE of CO₂ increase keeps increasing.

It's not exponential (like the @clubofrome.org 1972 'Limit's to growth' projection), but there is little indication of the growth rate stabilizing (let alone decreasing) any time soon either.

Somehow, when Simon and Garfunkel sang that they got all the news they needed on the weather report, I don’t think that’s what they had in mind.
Chicago may experience less tear gas use as Operation Midway Blitz winds down. Cold and wet weather reduce effectiveness, while wind adds unpredictability.
Wind, cold temps can change the impact of tear gas and pepper balls, experts say

Very specifically mortifying to me personally as I grew up in Denmark and voted for Labour at the last election that a supposedly left wing government has borrowed this HORRIFIC RACIST BULLSHIT from a supposedly socially democratic country FOR FUCKS SAKE

Is there a book like White Fragility…
but about American adults and the air they breathe?

Because someone needs to write the book on why a nation that buys air fryers, air fresheners, air purifiers, scented candles, and aromatherapy oils…
won’t fight for clean air that keeps their children alive.

Yet again we’re being warned that if we ask billionaires to pay their fair share of tax they might leave. So it’s definitely worth trying.

It’s not a compliment! First of all, I don’t want to use violent metaphors for my day to day life. Second, this is a nonsense narrative to make abled people feel better about this when we “lose”.

“Oh, she gave it a good college try, but in the end, COVID wanted it bad enough.”

We need to engineer a way of managing & storing rain flood water from events like #StormClaudia.
A) it would protect more infrastructure in flood zones. B) we wouldn’t increasingly suffer droughts.
Drinking/irrigation water is a very valuable commodity we need to invest in.

Due to intense photophobia I wear sunglasses a lot. I like Oakley as certain frames fit my face well & don’t allow any light in from sides. I’ve started buying pairs with different frame/lens colours to match/contrast outfits. Colour & light is all I can see so why not? Being #Blind is complicated.😎

I hate portmanteau words but “slopaganda” is magnificent
Gone down a weird rabbithole with far-right Facebook slopaganda* about celebrities cancelling things as a result of the New York election result.

*I just invented this word: AI-generated disinformation content pumped onto social media by right-wing think tanks, and "slopaganda" was right there.
