it's similar in books where everyone i know who's a full-time author is like "please pre-order because basically only pre-orders count for books anymore"
whenever I think about how a movie's financial success has been reduced to essentially it's first weekend in theaters, I am reminded there used to be a thriving economy based on months-long schedules, rentals, VHS and DVD sales, regional theaters, syndication on TBS, and international release dates

The Got Milk? advertising campaign, in its focus on the hazards of lacking the advertised product, can be considered a descendant of Jim Henson's commercials for Wilkins Coffee. In this essay I will

This is actually a really good example of when the term “Zionist” veers into antisemitism
And, just to round out the field, the Libertarian Party continues its descent into a collection of bigoted edgelords. I think my post on their corruption by MAGA was too optimistic.

What I wish people in America understood is that being far right/authoritarian is not just a white Christian thing, although that is by far the most dangerous form in the country.

It's a way of imagining how your group will structure itself societally, and applies to just about every demographic.

Every time there’s a big shocking news story, we seem to collectively have to relearn the lessons of consuming information and identifying disinformation online. That knowledge is not persistent.

Copied from what I posted on Twitter:

Finally back online, but my family and I have been following the news.

My aunt and uncle are visiting from Israel. My great-aunt and -uncle live there. So do my first cousin, his family, and a whole lot of my second cousins and their family.

Kaiji was a manga inspired by the struggles Japan faced during its recession in the 90s. It's a story I'm sure is just as relatable now as it was then.

Kaiji nearly crumbled under the pressure gambling with his life on the line. I loved imagining that same kinda of stress playing mere board games.

Still keeping up with the "write 300+ words a day on my Disney project, six days a week" habit I started Sunday before last. Looks like my average is 502 words a day, or ~3000 words a week. Not bad -- if I keep it up, it'd mean a pace of one entry every 3-4 weeks.

The USPS does not lose money. It *costs* money. It’s a government service, not a business. Please stop judging it like it’s a struggling startup.
USPS keeps losing money, potentially putting people who depend on mail delivery at risk
If the U.S. Postal Service's turnaround plan fails, that could threaten its ability to deliver the mail and pay its retirees' benefits.

The biggest enabler for creativity is stability. I wish that was made more central to the creative narrative. Figure out what your specific needs are to limit stressors and enable "boring" time and work to achieve that as hard as you're practicing your art.
