…Shit, that takes me back. I remember the day when a whole bunch of people did that by spamming the LUEshi ASCII art on the Next-Gen Gaming forum.

I interpreted “MTG” as Magic: The Gathering for a moment.

Some of the quote-skeets, too. Or whatever they’re called around here.

I’ve seen videos of people playing Ocarina of Time at GDQ. I‘ve seen a man beat Super Mario World with a credits warp in RTA. I’ve seen ALTTP randomizer streamers who habitually “hover” across gaps. I’ve seen LISTICLES of the best and most game-breaking FF6 bugs.

“0% bugs.”

A while back I saw that bit about “generating an image takes enough electricity to fully charge a phone X00 times” and decided to look up the original paper’s figure for watt-hours and run the numbers.

It worked out to running my microwave for… I think less than 10 seconds.

I’ve thought for a while that “We Demand Your Hatred” would be a good title for a book on the history of the modern anti-Zionist movement.

From the fact that it shows as “Blocked” even when logged out, I think the way Bluesky works is, if you block someone who QT’d you, it shows that way no matter who views the QT. No need to block anyone else.

Makes sense as an anti-dogpile defense, I suppose.

This reminds me that it’s been a couple months since I last read a volume (Deluxe #5, regular volumes 13-15). I should get back to that.

(Griffith’s ascension strikes me more as based on a denial that there is any being or ideal higher than himself and his own desires, whether grandiose or base.)

(Also wondering if ownership of sheep/cotton/hemp tends to be concentrated in a few hands, and how fiber’s distributed in a low-monetization society where EVERYONE needs some to spin. The usual favor-trading, tally sticks, and — if the Big Man owns it — extra labor/rent?)
October 12, 2025 at 1:16 AM
So is that part at all specialized? Or does every house in the village have a loom fed by the yarn they spin, maybe more than one for the bigger households or ones with more daughters?
October 12, 2025 at 1:16 AM
That is, yes, it’s the next-largest chunk of labor, but it’s still a very distant second. And even a basic warp-weighted loom seems to need a bigger investment of time and materials to set up than a distaff and drop spindle.

I may need to reread @bretdevereaux.bsky.social’s textile series, because the last installment of this one had me a bit puzzled on one topic: Sure, every woman and girl spins… but does every woman and girl WEAVE?

This is probably the strangest route by which a conversation has ever started at Hot Fuzz and wound up at The World’s End.

The one thing that bugged me when I last read it, and it could well have been a reading comprehension issue:

When he says “I must make two honest confessions to you”, I couldn’t figure out what the second one was.

I think I get what you’re saying. That is, there are better and worse systems, with more and less effective guard rails… but ultimately, no matter what, the guard rails are made of people.

I wonder if this person can point to a single thing you’ve actually said as grounds for their hatred.

After I posted this I had the thought that "knight" might be better than "warrior"… and then I realized there's probably porn out there riffing off the stock "princess knight" hentai plot where Hornet gets captured and gang-raped by whatever the bug equivalent of orcs would be.

I've only watched the first couple hours, but I do like how she's both courteous and dignified in all her interactions, as befits the warrior princess she is.

Even in an individual, turning away from the temptation of vengeance isn't always easy. In fiction, it's used to show remarkable moral fiber.

Anderton choosing not to kill Crow in Minority Report. The Killing Joke. "Personal isn't the same as important." And so on.

So how do this proposal's terms compare to the recent ones falling under the latter category?
August 18, 2025 at 10:23 PM
Yeah, a huge point in discourse between Zionists is the notion of Israel as the country that WOULD have bombed the tracks to Auschwitz.

(Not that their solidarity with the diaspora is exactly living up to that ideal these days.)

It's occurred to me before that children's movies are the one kind of movie where you can reasonably expect much of your audience to just… not be familiar with movies at all.

And I've wondered how that affects the cinematic language they use and such.

Possibly useful for grasping it:

The Census Bureau's population clock says the US population is about 342M.

$25 billion is $73.10 per capita. That monthly GDP figure comes out to about $7,432 per capita.
