Watching the pendulum swing around on the Jim Carrey Grinch this year is about right for the nostalgia cycle, of course, but also sobering to remember it was critiqued at the time as gaudy, overlong, and unnecessary—now ubiquitous features of our cinema we find quaint in the amberized larval stage.

I use the full plain text contents of Moby Dick as test data when I develop programs which handle arbitrary text to make sure they work with moderately large strings, and one day i accidentally produced this. It’s Moby Dick with every paragraph overlayed
The entire text of Moby Dick with each paragraph overlayed atop one another so that the top lines are just solid black bars, dense with characters, with lines becoming less dense as you descend, until you can make out glyphs and, finally, a few words: “think of that dream, Flask?”

failed the anti-mirror test the other day. they found someone off the street that looked a lot like me. styled their hair the same as me. put me in a room that was connected to another via a mirror-shaped window. the other was in the opposite room with a red mark on their forehead. they had been trained to mimic my movements—an incredible talent, I must admit. I stupidly took the bait. tried to rub away the mark, thinking I also had it. the other pointed and laughed. what a fool I've been made out to be! if only I had been more diligent, more meticulous... then maybe I'd still have my dignity. keen spite of reason, they got me again! the scientists offered a chance to "get one back" on my doppelganger. they put that red mark on my forehead. placed me in the opposite room this time. I spotted my other in the "mirror" the moment I came in. followed their movements quite exactly, I was very proud of myself... but the other wouldn't bite. why were they not reaching up to wipe away the mark that I could see wasn't there? we played this game for after 10 minutes when I was beguiled with the shock of my life. I had appeared behind myself. it was the doppelganger! in the room with me! turns out that the "mirror" window was no window. it was a real mirror this time! I'd been duped again! the mark they'd put on my forehead was a ruse—the scientists had just dabbed water on the spot and claimed it was ink. I was fooled again! what a detestable beast they've hollowed me into. it's all over. do me a service, kill me in the mouth clean and simple

a semi-transparent vaguely lizard shaped slime with eyes glowing from within the slime body. normal gecko feet poke out of the limbs and its mouth and nostrils connect to lizard within. a scrawny vaguely gecko-like lizard with tubular nostrils and teeth.

Roger Ebert’s review of Black Dynamite goes from describing period attire to breast appreciation very quickly. There will never be another like him.
The women are also dressed in period threads, and many have big Afros. I am happy to say it brings back an element sadly missing in recent movies, gratuitous nudity. Sexy women would “happen” to be topless in the 1970s movies for no better reason than that everyone agreed, including themselves, that their breasts were a genuine pleasure to regard — the most beautiful naturally occurring shapes in nature, I believe. Now we see breasts only in serious films, for expressing reasons. There’s been such a comeback for the strategically positioned bed sheet, you’d think we were back in the 1950s.
