Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

"Harvard can't use race as a factor in admissions, but ICE can use race as a factor in detentions" is a retrenchment essentially to a pre-Civil War understanding of the Constitution. It's vanishingly few steps removed from "Latinos have no rights which the white man is bound to respect."

This “explicit” is a weird editorial choice. The constitution gives the president no power over this at all. It’s not ambiguous.

If Obama or Biden had said this, it would be rightfully understood as them arrogating dictatorial authority to themselves, it would be the only thing anyone in the media or opposition would talk about for a year, and it would probably end their presidency. For Trump, it’s literally just Tuesday.

For my money, the Senate Democratic caucus seems to be one of the most serious foreseeable hurdles to any project of constitutional restoration. Not because of a pivotal member or two getting cold feet, but rather a pervasive sclerotic disbelief at what time it is.
Notable: Trump UN nominee Mike Waltz was on track to fail by a tie vote in committee, but Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen cast a decisive vote to rescue him. 12-10, he advances to the full Senate.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Do they really think they can scare us with the word “socialist” when they are literally sending out men in masks with no warrants and no badges to disappear people off American streets?

I know what I’m scared of, and it’s not a socialist.

We really need to stop talking about this as some kind of looming threat rather than a process well underway. It’s not “close.” You have arrived at your destination. The order has been delivered.

Former President Barack Obama issued a warning about the future of American democracy, while speaking at an event in Connecticut.

Obama cautioned that the country is “dangerously close” to normalizing behavior “consistent with autocracies.”

Kristi Noem must resign. She has deported a four year old with cancer, detained a U.S. marshal, and arrested two members of Congress. She’s lost the confidence of the American people. ICE must stop terrorizing our communities.
