Children, I think, have a special - and ignored - children's culture transmitted exclusively by "older kids" to "younger kids." Vis: Who taught you to to jump rope? Not an adult, but the older kid on your street. Who taught you how to play marbles? That good kid player, right? More study needed.
Ever since that year I forgot to buy candy and I gave out carrot and celery sticks to kids looking for a "trick or treat", my home has been routinely skipped. I fear I have been labelled the neighborhood grinch.
