I disagree with this because I think at the margins spending on healthcare is not the best way to achieve better health outcomes.
But it's an important intervention in the debate because it starts with honesty about the fundamental drivers of healthcare spending.

The thing that drives me mad about the health spending debate is it totally *why* budgets are rising everywhere.
It's a *good thing* that health spending takes up an ever larger proportion of GDP. It's what we should *want* to spend money on!

I bang on a lot about different ways of counting hospital admissions or measuring length of stay or describing bed occupancy. But for me, the most important thing about patient flow metrics is that they shouldn't just be looked at; they should be discussed.
