It's likely this decision had little to do with the visit. No way was FIFA going to let one of its golden geese be prohibited from playing a single second of this World Cup.

But the timing is certainly...something.
A few days after Cristiano Ronaldo was at the White House, FIFA says it has suspended the remaining two games of Cristiano Ronaldo's three-game ban for violent conduct, meaning he can play in Portugal's first two World Cup games.

Coincidence or not, it's certainly timing.
