Time as Transformative
The philosophy of time in the Western tradition, originating in the philosophy of physical time, may seem irrelevant to personal experience. However, in my work, the philosophy of time has been transf...

Anyone got a handy tracker for the ‘zombie facts’ * (I’ll call them) about LLMs, the things claimed over and over thst already lost all the water?

E.g., LLMs beat a math Olympiad, a law exam, helped material scientists invent new materials, and so on

*adapting BBC’s More or Less ’zombie stat’ idea

The exhibition Gravity (15 July - 29 October 2011) featured a lithographic illustration made by William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, of the Whirlpool Galaxy which was on loan from Birr Scientific and Heritage Foundation.

Pictured is how it is featured in the catalogue.

considering trump and his followers, and the mass push at all cost toward a semblance of AI

It’s llike hypercapitalism has mutated the Anthropocene into a new form

I don’t know what to call it

A privileged people’s longing
to worship,
even to insanity,
even an idiot god

Oddly amazing for me about these interstellar objects they're discovering - 3I/ATLAS in this video (Fraser Crain) - obvious & probably *shrug* if I think about it:
MOST THINGS THAT EXIST are more like these interstellar objects than (Earth) stuff we treat as ordinary

“The robots are people too”
….
When I say that the concept of the "digital commons" was always a facade made up by politically illiterate toddlers this is what I mean
NEW: Common Crawl, the massive archiver of the web, has gotten cozy with AI companies and is providing paywalled articles for training data. They’re also lying to publishers who have asked for material to be removed. “The robots are people too,” CC’s exec director told us when we asked about this.

… even if it IS how reality works, I’m unsure of ita value: beyond explaining how some qualia arise - “they don’t; they just are… “ - we can’t use it to explain why pain hurts, red reds, and both come apart and together. The qualia of a dust bunny and a speck of dust offer zilch for this

I'm all for fancy-new-schmancy 'social contagion' notions to explain why suddenly lots of people do things you didn't expect

- memes, Kundera's hand wave transmissions (read 'Immortality') etc. -

But I'm left-handed

We left-handed folk know there were suddenly more of us when it was suddenly fine
Yikes! This is fake news. More trans kids felt safe to come out, now they don't. Government's are painting a target on the back of trans kids backs, forcing them tk stay in the closet.

So, after a while, being around people, will there be one that imitates a human face?
