through @404media.co, I discover this fascinating site (for folks interested in #AI mis/use) on legal cases where GenAI was used to write lawyer briefs.

For context. This is post-WWII, in the ‘60’s. Russell was an idle peacenik*
for years, pre-WWI, and also gave IMO an extraordinary speech to CND in 1959 (two heads earlier):

Note that, despite its name, Academia. edu is a commercial (for-profit) company, not an academic org. It got its name before '.edu' got locked down

fkkn "ai"

When I ask a 'maverick' form of Llama (Meta's model in WhatsApp), it writes: "there are some interesting connections and circumstantial evidence worth exploring. Buckle up!"

...and then gives fake evidence: www.snopes.com/fact-check/m...

and, I think, fake citations (see screenshot)

Reminds me: the attitude people had toward chemicals. In his Analysis of Sensations, Mach casually mentions the auditory experience of explosions from the chem lab down the hall

+ seems chemistry was driven in the late 19th c by business

Academia.edu sent me a private link to a podcast ‘an AI’ - they did, pretty sure - created of one of my papers. I opened it - it said Sean Enda Power created this podcast. I listened - a British AI voice [hrm] saying welcome delighted etc

Hmm the whole thing hmm

From Omar El Akkad’s book, ‘One day […] everyone will have always been against this’

Posting coz though I’m, am in one of the more privileged groups in my country, I knew this was true (growing up) in catholic Ireland and know it is wanted by some to be true in the corporatising one we are in now

This morning, in my folks’ place, I found uncovered in the dirt this toy I had as a kid in the early 80’s. It’s a tiny die cast model of the space shuttle. Corroded and covered in dirt, all its loose bits gone

Behind the AI curve here of course - I follow the subject, am not a ethicist or developer - but

um

Recent article by Microsoft on a ‘new’ AI category: ‘reasoning AI’

that ‘new’ hit me weird

I’d have assumed 2.5 yrs back this category just IS AI? techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/azurede...

Maybe irrelevant to you, reader, but you might also know about this

Projection is idempotent: repeated use makes no difference

Like, if you project (cast) a shadow, then by the same projection method, you cast a shadow OF that shadow, you get an identical shadow?

A pic to show what I mean....

The new courses…

The most obvious new ones are case studies that not only don’t interest me but actively put me off - maybe even make me a little queasy

Case studies like:
- Unlocking rental value on AirBnB
- Going viral on X
- Topping the charts on Spotify
