On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Writers, publishing will suck all the joy and light from your life if you let it.

My heart is heavy. 18 years ago tomorrow, we adopted Shadow and his sister. Last week, i was shooing him off the kitchen counter. Today, the sun set on his life. I never expected to grieve so much for such an aloof beast.

You know, if this is supposed to be our roaring 20s, I think we're all due a refund.

It's out! Boundary Shock Quarterly #32. This is a Zeros and Ones issue—I have a fun short in it called "The Fly Catches the Spyder." Set just before the events in Accidental Intelligence, it follows one Nikolai Anokhin, a Russian criminal with Mason Truman in his sights.

The local Krispy Kreme has replaced human drive-thru order takers with a chatbot. It can't handle even the simplest questions about offerings. It answers with canned responses only vaguely related to your questions. This has gotta be costing more in sales than it saves in labor. I won't be back.
