My heart is heavy. 18 years ago tomorrow, we adopted Shadow and his sister. Last week, i was shooing him off the kitchen counter. Today, the sun set on his life. I never expected to grieve so much for such an aloof beast.

I don't usually dress up for the holiday, but on this damp Oregon Halloween, I'll be an ornamental cabbage. My wife's a fan.

Look at that. Someone in my critique group has a new novel out. I knew when I read it, it would land her an agent and a book deal, it was that good. Apparently, my feedback on her early drafts was worth noting. I hope to return the favor one day.
