Brilliant. But this made my brain hurt as I tried to figure out how they did it. Wait until you see the credits.

The year is 2035. I meet President AOC in the Oval Office. "You've done well," she says. "By telling men to dress gay, you've lowered the population rate by 90%, thereby reducing carbon emissions." She slides me a manilla envelope. I can now afford a home in a walkable neighborhood

And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

Why, you may also ask, did voters not buy the (correct) message that Trump represents an existential threat to 🇺🇸 democracy?

In Georgia, a mom facing eviction reached out to DFCS for help. They offered her nothing. Soon the agency took her kids away because of "inadequate housing."

The state then paid *$6,200 a month* to house her kids in foster care.

One of the most important and infuriating stories I read this year:
When Families Need Housing, Georgia Will Pay for Foster Care Rather Than Provide Assistance
In more than 700 cases over five years, Georgia reported inadequate housing as the sole reason for taking a child into foster care, a WABE and ProPublica analysis found. Advocates say it would be chea...

I said this on the show, but something that hasn’t sunk in, I think. We haven’t had a “new” president who is sworn in and is immediately a lame duck in the nation’s entire history. When Grover Cleveland was sworn in a second time we didn’t have the 22nd amendment!

A widespread shortage of a beloved brew in Britain has led one pub to distribute ration cards to customers. Employees at another pub wheeled kegs through rain just to obtain a small supply. A distributor said the drought could lead to the end of some businesses.
Guinness is running dry in U.K. pubs. Is a social media challenge to blame?
Ahead of the holidays, U.K. pubs are running out of Guinness, which skyrocketed in popularity alongside the social media challenge “split the G.”

We are about to be a part of the most vivid and vicious expression in modern times of the richest among us grabbing as much as they can for themselves, no matter how much pain they cause. Out of this must come a renewed and intensified opposition and commitment to the common good.

The GOP is apparently planning on passing a reconciliation package with as much as $120 BILLION in border-related funding.

To put that in context, if you add up ever single Border Patrol budget from 1990 through 2024, adjusted for inflation, it's $121 billion. That's THIRTY-FOUR YEARS of funding.

It is pretty crazy how bad US democracy looks right now in comparison with South Korea, or Brazil for that matter. Remember, folks: it’s not the coup attempt, it’s how you respond to it…

Oh look. A playbook…
It appears that anyone spreading "fake news" can be arrested without a warrant as part of South Korea's martial law decree (one of many worrying provisions). Add this to the long list of abuses caused by bans and laws against so-called fake/false news.

It took four decades to go from Ronald Reagan's lazy, childish talking point about government to the dismantling of the modern administrative state. Who knows how long it will take to recreate everything we'll discover we actually liked & needed once we needlessly & childishly destroy it.
the biggest risk to ordinary American life in the next four years is not so much being targeted by vengeful Trumpists but the fact that there is a level of functional government that we have always relied on that may simply cease to exist
The piece has tons of devastating details about Hegseth's many, many disqualifying personal traits, but we shouldn't overlook the parts about how he has repeatedly mismanaged every single organization he's led and been driven out of job after job for utter incompetence.

This movie is fantastic and surprisingly moving. Probably not the story you’re expecting, not told the way you’re expecting. Glad it’s now streaming on Netflix for a wider audience.
