I know this is the optimistic take but I don’t think I will ever look at America the same even if we avoid the worst of it and I say this as someone who was a true believer in American exceptionalism
i think where i stand is that is that this administration is going to be godawful, doing incredibly evil things but they are likely to do things that make them radioactively unpopular in a way that outstrips Trump's first term
these next four years are going to be grim

another thing is that people love to bring up the "2 trillion dollars" thing to attack the F-35 but that is for the entire service life of the entire program until like 2070 i think? like every airframe, maintenance, and spare parts and the equivalent cost for legacy aircraft is like 4 trillion
