So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

I knew dad was way into making paella. Got his pan at the Spanish Table in Seattle (which I just learned has a different name and owners now).

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Sockeye salmon marinated in guajillo adobo. Cooking a whole fillet looks nicer but it’s the same fish. Big hit with the kids (sorry it’s half eaten)

I second this as a great lunch spot. A lot more filling than it looks
Renewed my drivers license kinda last minute before it expires. Worst case it’d take a couple hours so took the day off. Actually in and out the door in less than 30 mins.

speaking of soy and nasty things, we may or may not succeed in getting our kids to speak Japanese (past a certain point, it's up to them), but they like eating natto (for now) and I'd say that's success.
Specifically, a student asked what tofu was made of (not the subject of the class to be clear) and their immediate response was “nasty things”
1. You have a student whose food culture includes tofu

Border Patrol heading to Charlotte is surprising to me in one sense. Charlotte is a city that is viewed very favorably by Republicans in general, unlike Chicago/LA/DC which conservative media has been demonizing for a long time. I wonder if/how the dynamic becomes different because of that.
Partisan split on who likes which city is both (A) what you expect and (B) wild that this is even a thing if you think about it. And it's pretty predictive of where the federal government seems to focus on.
