New York is at the top of my list of "cities I've been to but haven't done justice to", though—I discuss some of this.

Toronto (8-hour overnight layover where I went to an izakaya at midnight), Philly (a long layover on the way to Europe) and Portland, Oregon (1 night) are the other big ones

What I didn't go into is how some of it is the recent influx of NY-based food. Like I appreciate some of it (Paulie Gee's, Levain, Van Leeuwen), but these guys? I'm sure Obélix is better, and we don't need any more generic Italian downtown.

And we don't need tacos fron NY (Tacombi)

Something in here is how my wife (from Chi suburbs) used to resent NYC but then she stopped after living there for a bit. I didn’t but then I moved to Chicago
