OKAY SO HI #BOOKSKY

It is January. I promised myself I would read a bunch of trans #sapphic horny fiction this year. Let me tell you about SUNSPOT, quite possibly the queer-nerdiest thing I have read in my life and that includes books where there are dramatic query optimization sequences. 🌈📚💙
Putting this out there as a reminder for myself: I raved and gushed about Magica Riot, next up is going to be Sunspot by Yootie, serialized on Royal Road, which I've read the first six chapters of already and AAAAA HOLY SHIT IT'S AMAZING.

More in the morning.
Someone asked me recently what would happen if I got clout poisoning from too many followers and I said I'd go mad with power and recommend/shill a stream of trans sapphic SF/F novels. so if anyone wants that future you should manifest it by being my impromptu book club as I read books by gals here.

Tips? Engineer your life, new writers of #pretendpanel. People mostly can't "push through it" or "work harder" even in the short term. Curate and cultivate your environment, figure out what your workflow is, measure your output, and don't lie to yourself.

Also: publish. Don't sit on your work.
Good morning/afternoon/evening/endless silver sea of frozen time, #pretendpanel

Today's question...

January 8: What tips do you have for new writers?

Aileen Cannon simply does not have the authority to block the Justice Department from releasing Jack Smith’s report. She might pretend otherwise, but she’s powerless to do so. Merrick Garland should maybe consider this fact before Jan. 20! slate.com/news-and-pol...

The British government gaslights us by claiming it is “progressive” to militarise borders. If the British government were keen to stop migrant exploitation, it could work with other countries to provide safer ways for people to migrate and stop enabling wars/genocides in other places.
Migrant exploitation is a progressive issue. That’s why we will now take the toughest steps ever to stop it | David Lammy
Our new sanctions regime targets those profiting from irregular migration and organised immigration crime. We must be focused and smart, says David Lammy, the UK foreign secretary

The corruption is going to be staggering and in your face in an attempt to keep people from fighting back. They are going to flood the zone with illegality and brazen corruption so people don’t know what to focus on.

The US State Department has officially designated atrocities in Sudan carried out by the RSF as genocide.

It's not going to provide immediate respite to victims of ongoing atrocities in Sudan. But it's official acknowledgment.

Now...will the US actually reel in the RSF's biggest backer the UAE?

scoop: will oklahoma be the first state to ban renewable energy? its becoming increasingly likely.

as investments from the inflation reduction act flow into red states, we're seeing backlash. republicans are disliking renewables *more* than before.

The wildfires and the genocide raise the same question: how much pain and suffering are we willing to inflict on ourselves, each other, and our world before we do anything different? How bad does it have to get? I deeply fear the answer to that question.

Trump and Republicans will try to hold relief funds for California hostage because it's a blue state and they hate us and don't care about us. Not new in the Trump era they did the same shit to New York after Sandy. Ted Cruz led the charge to deny us relief funds.

Reminder to those who wanted to help pack the courtroom next week 👇🏼
🧵 In January there is a sentencing hearing for Cory Young, a neo-Nazi skinhead who plead guilty for his role in the murder of Jake Kelly, a gay man from Phoenix.

If it’s anything like the last hearing, then the room will be packed with fellow neo-Nazis and so far, Jake’s mother has stood alone.
🧵 Today is Shannon Young’s sentencing hearing.

Back in October she plead guilty to her role in the murder of Jake Kelly, a gay man from Phoenix. With only a hindering charge, she’s only facing the possibility of one year in prison, but the deal also allows her to get up to five years probation.
