British cartoonist RE Burke was detained by ICE in Seattle WA and held for 19 days. She previously traveled in USA in 2023 on same Visa with no issues. She is home now. Her family thanks all who helped their daughter. Her treatment at the Tacoma detention facility was dehumanizing #Voices4Victory
The full statement from the family of R.E. Burke clarifies that there were no grounds whatsoever for the British cartoonist to be detained by ICE for almost 3 weeks – she held a valid ESTA, had broken no rules or laws in the US, and was ready & able to return home.

I served on President Obama’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. When Donald Trump won in 2016, we moved some of our programs to the IMLS to ensure that they would continue. Sadly, those programs are no longer safe. Libraries are a vital part of our identity. Let’s work to protect them.
