Hah yes this.

Some of the books I loved as a teen have really not held up, while others did and are clearly excellent.

But there were books I was also just not ready to read, and my opinions on them were a waste of space.

There's something amazing about game designers at the peak of their careers taking time to share advanced techniques. Because they care. Because they know in their hearts that we are in this together.
Playful Narrative: A Toolbox for Story-Rich Mechanics explores ways to more deeply integrate narrative into game mechanics, or, as the work group said, to enhance the experience of “playing” with story.

Samaa’s request is extremely urgent.

She and her family need to leave the red zone yesterday. She gave birth to baby Talia via c-section just a week ago, and that’s why they haven’t been able to leave yet.

Please help.

A combination of two alien invasive species, sika deer and rhododendron, are killing this beautiful native forest in Lauragh, Kerry.

The trees can't regenerate due to the overgrazing, and as they age and die, only the proliferating rhodo remains.

Invasives are a *top* driver of global nature loss.

It just rolled past me and I didn’t try to catch it

Still remember one study where they had "AI" look at photos to diagnose cancer and it had like a 98% or 99% accuracy...

...except all the photos of actual tumors had a ruler next to them for scale. And the algorithm just got really good at spotting rulers in a photograph.
Stop offloading cognitive tasks to "generative AI." Stop using systems w/ "AI" features either inextricably woven through them or prominently displayed at the top to nudge you into their use. Stop *Designing* "AI" tools & integrations that way. Stop building or using "AI" like this. Fucking Stop it.

Artificial intelligence, touted for its potential to transform medicine, led to some doctors losing skills after just a few months in a new study.

Unsolicited writing advice, no: 216: RESEARCH. If you're writing about a time, place, culture, historical figure, profession, etc., it pays to research it properly. That might mean: reading; travelling; going to libraries and museums; consulting archives; talking to people with lived experience.

will never forget the book set in India by an American author who painstakingly researched everything but then had people across the country flipping light switches up to switch them on when in India you flip down for on and up for off, it's the stuff you don't think needs research that gets you
And don't tell yourself: "It's a story. The small details don't really matter." They do. I once read a historical novel set in Victorian London (written, I think, by an American author), in which the detective protagonist presses a 50-pence piece into a grimy urchin's hand. I think about this a lot.

I think this is probably the best prediction I’ve seen of what’s going to happen. Because “what’s going to happen” is not best understood by science fiction stories but by economics and “what has happened before in similar markets”.

There is a hard difference between People Who Are Rich, who are people that do things with their riches, and Rich People, who are so defined by their riches that every engagement with the world is for their financial advancement.
