I am such a believer in this. Down-ballot is the way.

We don’t just need strong candidates. We need strong organizers, managers, CoS, grassroots, etc.

I’ve been organizing in rural areas since the first Trump administration. Rural Dems can make the difference in races at the top of the ticket.
Republicans have all of the electorate they’re ever going to have. Organize to turn out 5% to 10% more Dems in rural spaces. Watch what happens…

Meanwhile, a lot of cities in California that successfully avoided "impact on school enrollment" by blocking new housing are having to contemplate school closures as a result of shrinking student populations.
When a zoning staff member writes “impact on school enrollment” as a negative factor to consider for a proposed development, they might as well just say “our community doesn’t want families with kids”

Too many of our checks and balances rely on norms, traditions and the honor code.

I disagree that this is a “while you’re at it” request, as I think this kind of organizing needs to be specific! But … no admin or house of congress has ever put forward even a SPECULATIVE budget that fully funds IDEA. And it pisses me off.
While you’re at it, ask your reps to fully fund IDEA. We do not have enough programming options for ASD students, lack of teacher and staff training, kids having to transfer out of districts multiple times to attend school, etc. Special Ed is already on life support.
