I feel like I should be posting more about our heart collection items for upcoming Valentine's Day. And even, really, the jewellery overall. But it's been... a really tough month this month. So. Yeah. We make jewellery. It's pretty. Silver's expensive. Gems are expensive. Here are some cats.

My father started weightlifting some years after retirement from teaching. He's in the hall of fame, and won a lot of golds at the World Games. Here's a copy of a local newspaper article about it when he was in his 70s. And a blog from his 80s.

Text: Ask 71-year-old Bob Fusillo what weightlifting means to him and you get a matter-of-fact reply. “I’m afraid I’m not very spiritual about it,” he said. “I just do it.” But he doesn’t just do it, he does it very well. Fusillo, a two-time U.S. National Masters champion, also has a pile of Georgia Games medals and a Pan American Games title to his credit. In September, the retired English professor will travel to Glasgow, Scotland, for the World Championships. Until then, Fusillo said he will work on breaking the world masters record in the clean and jerk; he missed it by 2.5 kilograms when he broke his own U.S. mark — along with his records in the snatch and total — at the nationals last month. Fusillo didn’t start weightlifting until age 67, when he saw a newspaper article about a man in his 70s who lifted. “I said to myself, ‘Heck, I can do that,’” Fusillo said. He didn’t let past health problems stop him; he had a quadruple bypass in the mid-1980s and has had three angioplasty procedures since. Fusillo, who works out three times a week at Gold’s Gym in Marietta, said the best part about being a weightlifter is “my wife loves to brag about me.” The worst part? “There hasn’t been a moment when I haven’t hurt somewhere. … I always say I took this up because I didn’t want to be a doddering old man groaning as he walked up the stairs. So now I go to the gym and work out until I’m exhausted. Then I go home and groan when I have to get out of the chair.”

Catching a train from Bristol Temple Meads, but they shifted the service along the platform because a scene from THE OUTLAWS was being shot where it would usually come in. The scene featured Christopher Walken and Stephen Merchant, but my train came before they shot it so I didn't see either of 'em.

I contacted the FORLIFE company about this tea kettle to ask a question about the lid (which is not the right lid, it seems, though this is how it came). They asked me to send them pictures of the pot (pictures here) to prove it's their teapot.

They say it is not a FORLIFE pot.

#artadventcalendar day 21. A necklace I made for my wife for our 5th anniversary. Tradition is wood, so I cheated. I took a dogwood leaf from the garden and used it as a pattern for the engraving and shape. And the stone is dendritic opal (which is, you know, wood-inspired). Argentium.

20th day of #adventcalendar. Today's piece is an 18k palladium white gold pendant set with 4 carats of yellow sapphires and a 4 ct Brazilian amethyst. I don't rhodium plate my palladium white pieces, so they're still a touch yellow. A warm white gold. But natural.
An 18k white gold necklace hangs, centered, over a purple background. It has a center stone of large, 4ct Brazilian sapphire, and is surrounded by 4 cts of yellow sapphires in oval shapes. Holding the newly-set piece and polished piece in my hand. It's an 18k white gold pendant with a center stone of a large, oval, 4ct Brazilian sapphire, surrounding yellow sapphires in oval shapes. Holding the pre-polished pendant piece in my hand. I've yet to set the gems, but you can see the structure a little bit here. This is 18k palladium white gold that's not rhodium plated.

The 19th day of #artadventcalendar. This is a pair of pens I was commissioned to make for The Eagles' singer Don Henley and his wife back in 2016. I chose woods from the two states they call home (redwood burl -- sustainably harvested, and spalted pecan, which was hard to find).
A rollerball pen made from 24k gold plated steel and turned from redwood burl harvested from a fallen tree. Sequoia sempervirens, coastal redwood, is the state tree of California. It's a lovely wood, but burls with figure like this are illegally harvested by poachers, as they fetch a hefty price on the market. A rollerball pen made from a mix of sterling silver and fine silver-plated steel and turned from spalted pecan. Pecan is the state tree of Texas, but it's a plain wood, so I'd wanted to find something with a little more figure.
