From New Jersey to Minnesota, from Georgia to Virginia, from Pennsylvania to California, Democrats have been overperforming in race after race all year. And tonight we added Florida and Georgia (again) to that list with margins that should set off alarm bells for Republicans everywhere.

It would be easy, and accurate, to call 2025 the low point of human action on the climate crisis. But there was another major development that gives us reason to hope for the future, @billmckibben.bsky.social writes.

A Low Point of Human Inaction on Climate Change
The second Trump Administration’s assault on the environment has been as damaging as expected, but other developments this year give at least some hope for the future.

Want to feel hopeful about climate action? Look to local politics.

75% of the commitments that the US made at the Paris climate agreement can be reached entirely without federal support.

Denying the facts does not change the facts.
Trump's EPA continues to double down on climate denial and science denial by erasing all references to the human causes of global warming from its web site. Anything to serve its fossil fuel masters @eenews.bsky.social

Against everything America stands for. Is this who the republicans are? Silence is complicity.
Under this new proposal, if you're a European who wants to visit New York City for a vacation, you now have to turn over a TON of information to the United States government, which they will keep forever.

The days of just showing a passport will be long gone.

She’s the city’s first Democratic mayor since the 1990s—and she crushed the DeSantis/Trump-backed Emilio González.

Cruel, brutal, and lawless. Totally unacceptable. Where are the Republicans??
I’ve seen the Trump Administration do many terrible things, but this one is a first.

They wrongfully deported a 19-year-old Austin constituent in shackles. When she spoke out, armed ICE agents were sent in an unmarked van to threaten her parents. (1/2)

Trump just admitted that he called black countries “shithole countries“ in 2018. Back then he lied: "The language used by me at the ... meeting was tough, but this was not the language used." Sen. Tom Cotton, who was there, said at the time he did “not recall” Trump using those words. They’re liars.

DHS ordering a church to take down a nativity scene!?

Wait, so is Trump waging a WAR ON CHRISTMAS!? I’ve been warned about this for years by Fox News!
ICE’s acting director ordered a Boston Catholic parish to tear down its Advent Nativity scene—stripped of baby Jesus and branded with the message “ICE WAS HERE.” The parish priest is refusing, citing he pope’s call to stand with migrants. It's another chapter in Kristi Noem's war on Christians.
