OpenAI pirated large numbers of books and used them to train models.

OpenAI then deleted the dataset with the pirated books, and employees sent each other messages about doing so.

A lawsuit could now force the company to pay $150,000 per book, adding up to billions in damages.

I was a skeptic about the import of the Epstein files.

But 3 invasions of cities, one military buildup outside Venezuela, a government shutdown, and so many other things meant to distract have me convinced whatever’s in there is the biggest presidential scandal in U.S. history.

Yes, this really happened. The Met police has been arresting so many anti-genocide protesters that they’re complaining about how much they’re having to work overtime.

Poor cops. It’s tough being forced to arrest someone’s grandma because she doesn’t want kids starved to death.
This article is absolutely bananas - 'There aren’t enough of us. Hard-working police officers are continually having days off cancelled, working longer shifts and being moved from other areas to facilitate these protests.' - Paula Dodds, chair of the Metropolitan Police Federation.

This is literally what people do when they're not left scrambling for survival every hour of every day. They build communities, create things, contribute. Wikipedia isn't an anomaly, it is a distillation of human nature itself
“Wikipedia is this economic anomaly. In many ways, it’s sort of magical that people will just volunteer without explicit economic incentives to create artifacts that are meant to share knowledge with everyone in the world”

Artificial Intelligence is a vast field and has many uses. I don't hate the whole field.

I don't like that GenAI stealing people's work is being normalized

I don't like that chat bots present information as truth

I don't like that it's being pushed everywhere even if it doesn't make sense
can i ask my followers here perhaps too earnestly - if you hate AI or find it utterly worthless, why?
it's jolting how little AI skepticism has reached the general public. i've had many acquaintances ask whether i use AI for research and seem shocked when i tell them it's completely useless for that purpose. my wife recently told her colleagues about hallucinations and it was news to all of them.

Transphobes are like “you can’t say women are different to men, that’s sexist” and you can be like “yeah I agree, I’m agender” and then be like “you need to accept that women and men are fundamentally different to protect women” and think they’ve won the argument
