rugged individualism is by far the most bizarre belief because unlike every other position good or bad which can be traced back to some part of human development over the evolutionary process, this one is truly alien, it's a rejection of the primary advantage our species had that helped us take over

Also a good reminder that there isn't some fixed level of cruelty that will satisfy the bigots. The current level of cruelty immediately becomes the baseline, and they'll keep demanding more.
