Thanks to the NITA Act, and a city ordinance from @aldermanlaspata.bsky.social, Chicago has the highest population of any city in America that live on property that does not require vehicle parking

These transit champions deserve a monument!! Heroes!! 4:30AM is insane!!!
Illinois transit is going to be bigger and better than ever! SB2111 passed!!!

Almost everything I was referencing here passed last night! Tired, excited, disappointed with how and when, but happy! What great wins!
A democrat supermajority in Illinois legislature gets you: no housing, no clean energy, no transit. Like, Sierra Club agreed to support the bill that lifted the nuclear moratorium and it still didn't pass? Embarrassing

SB2111 in Illinois also:
—Eliminates all parking requirements in areas within 1/2 mi of transit stations or 1/8 mi of frequent bus routes.
—Gives transit agencies the ability to undertake transit-supportive development, including through purchasing new land and developing joint development projects.
Good morning!

Last night, Illinois’ legislature passed a law, SB2111, which will fund a major expansion of service for the Chicago region’s transit systems, thanks to new revenue sources.

The law also takes a major step forward in coordination between agencies.
Statement from the RTA: "The passage of SB2111 is a landmark moment for public transit in Illinois."

I am going to sleep with hope in my heart
Illinois transit plan would include:
—$860 m from state motor fuel sales tax
—$200 m in interest from state road fund
—$400 m from 0.25% sales tax increase in Chicago metro area (needs RTA approval)

This would close Chicago region’s transit fiscal cliff + allow substantially expanded operations.
With the clock running down to avert Illinois’ impending public transit fiscal cliff, state lawmakers late Thursday brought forward a new plan that excludes most of the broad taxes and fees that tanked previous versions.

Finally went to the DMV to replace my Texas license with an Illinois one. No appointment, took 20 minutes! It is hard to state how much I dreaded this due to the worst experiences in Texas, but instead it's a reminder of how great a decision moving to Chicago is

Good morning! Im headed towards the last Saturday class of my part time masters program for public policy. Lexi and I shared our favorite spots with friends in town last night. Finding community and working to make it better is the secret to happiness I think

The Sun-Times is reporting Border Patrol took at least two teenage boys today when they hit Little Village, again.

One is said to be a 16-year old student, U.S. citizen, and student at Benito Juarez Community Academy.
Federal agents detain Little Village high school student, deploy tear gas in faceoff with protesters
Feds wearing military-style camouflage gear and gas masks were seen tear-gassing and pepper-spraying protesters during the confrontation near a discount mall.

I recently googled "ILCS [crime] statute of limitations" and the AI result topline said 7 years.

Fortunately, I 1) was seeking a backdoor to the actual statute and 2) knew that didn't seem right. Scrolled down to the actual search results, clicked: 3 years.

Hit "back" to see where 7 was pulled...

Seems bad
New: federal judge April Perry in Chicago *will not* issue a temporary restraining order barring members of the Texas Natl. Guard from coming to IL.

Perry will give the fed. govt. until Wednesday at midnight to respond to IL's lawsuit. Oral arguments scheduled for Thursday.

"About 20 officers marched toward the protesters, a cloud of smoke obscuring them. They threw a flash bang grenade at the crowd while agents on the roof fired pepper balls". All this to terrorize Chicagoans.

I love my CCAT!! Absolutely cannot wait for La Spata's next Meet Me on Milwaukee!!
Thanks to Ald. La Spata for talking with CCAT! 🚴‍♂️

He’s championing CIO, ADUs, stronger enforcement for the Dept. of Environment, and proposing energy policy changes to tax high-use consumers like data centers. 💡

I love my CCAT 💚 New housing in Chicago is climate action!
Big thanks to Alderman Lamont Robinson for supporting our slate and recognizing that more housing benefits Chicago’s future, the environment, and the city’s budget!

I walk through Roosevelt/State every week and it sucks. That path on the SW corner is a joke. The developers must improve the transit/pedestrian/bike access like they said they would in the 2019 TIF

I'm inspired everyday by the extreme overlaps of environmentalism, abundant housing, and active transportation. We're all making life so much better together 💚❤️
We are excited to share that we have joined the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition (ICJC)! We look forward to working with fellow coalition members to tackle zoning and land use reforms that make it easier to build new, healthy homes in existing neighborhoods and near public transit.
