Technology bridge between .com and .gov #caleg #cabudget

I like thinking about public policy and the role technology can play to improve people's lives.

Being kind is long-term greedy.

If you primarily think of people as a means to get what you want, you lose. Treat people kindly because they matter.

A side benefit is people prefer to do business with people they like.

I have added a new symbol to the 2026 candidate list. I'm adding the 🅴 character to indicate a non-incumbent candidate who has been 🅴ndorsed by the current officeholder. That info doesn't tell you everything, but it also doesn't tell you nothing.. far from irrelevant.

Averages mask the devastation for people who don't live on the coast.

I am not sure people who live in the Bay Area grasp what a Central Valley utility bill looks like.

I am sure the commercial solar guy knows, not sure he cares.
Those complaining about the high rate of electricity in California, are sort of out of touch with reality. High rates *DONT* mean high bills.

Normal people - i.e. not #energysky - don't care about the RATE they pay, but the BILL at the end of the month.

Californians pay less than 40 states.

I love a clear standard!

"We need to build more homes until median rent is less than 30% of median monthly income and median home prices are less than 4x median annual income."
A single person making $82,000 a year should not need a subsidized apartment. A family making $117,000 should be able to buy a home.

We need to build more homes until median rent is less than 30% of median monthly income and median home prices are less than 4x median annual income.

Race is not the only issue, but until you realize Broadview is happening because there is no chance that white people will be subjected to the Broad view treatment- not sure you can really understand America.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

I don't get terribly excited about a bunch of dead Russians.

I want peace and I hope somehow, effectively military action causes Putin to relent.

Speaker Rivas and team deserve some serious love

A year ago, phonics legislation opposed by the CTA and other was pulled

Rivas asked critics and supporters to come back in 2025 with a compromise that was just signed. Not easy

Huge impact on millions of young readers!

I hope this kind of courage is contagious.
Oregon National Guard Adjutant General, General Gronewold says if they are federalized, that he will advise the Title 10 commander to utilize National Guard Troops to PROTECT protesters at ICE facilities. This is the right answer.

Every civic revival begins with ordinary people rediscovering that the Republic belongs to them.

The Republic is waiting for you to be active in your own rescue.

It does not exist in marble halls or executive orders, but in the hearts of those who still believe that self-government is possible.

Powerful statement. If the US led with this kind of clarity millions of Russian and Ukrainian men and women would not have been killed or injured.
🇵🇱🇷🇺”I have only one request to the Russian government: if another missile or aircraft enters our space without permission - deliberately or 'by mistake' - and gets shot down, and the wreckage falls on NATO territory, please don't come here to whine about it. You have been warned. Thank you."

Organizing is more important than advocacy.

In the wake of the murder, 37,000 people have applied to open Turning Point chapters.

Organizing is hard and messy and not at all glamourous, but is essential to political wins.

Both plants and panels convert sunlight into energy.

We can and should be amazed by both processes and embrace the one that provides the most benefits in a particular area.
California farm lobby once again killed a bill to make it easier for agricultural landowners to replace crops in water-stressed areas with solar projects. Gavin Newsom's office had "concerns" with the bill, per the author, @buffywicks.bsky.social. subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2025...

HUGE HOUSING NEWS: The Assembly just passed our bill allowing more homes near public transportation, SB 79!

We need more housing & we need it near transit. It’ll reduce traffic congestion & carbon emissions & increase transit ridership & affordability.

This has been making my brain hurt.

Both sides are certain that they risk losing important political fights to absolute morons because "our side" plays by the rules and the other guys cheat.

Politics is a "you win some; you lose some" business.

Dunking on your opponent after the fight is a rookie move, especially if you win.

Take the W and prepare for the next fight.

If you ever get cynical about the #caleg watch a few floor sessions.

The Gentleman from San Francisco is kind of like SF. And the Gentlewoman from LA is not like the Gentleman from Fresno.

We have a system that sends up people that reflect their communities.

And that's kind of awesome.
