Technology bridge between .com and .gov #caleg #cabudget

I like thinking about public policy and the role technology can play to improve people's lives.
This has been making my brain hurt.

Both sides are certain that they risk losing important political fights to absolute morons because "our side" plays by the rules and the other guys cheat.

Perhaps because the ice raids, health care cuts and tax increases are not playing well?

Who thinks his supporters will care if he had sex with little girls?

Can't recommend this #booksky enough!

Individual essays on the Great Recession by smart people with overviews by Jeffrey Friedman and Richard Posner.

The different perspectives of the essayists backed by data is a joy to read.

We are not building enough housing of any type. But the lack of for sale inventory likely has the biggest impact on wealth creation.

What is good for the haves is bad for the have nots at least in the short term. In the long term, I think it is bad for all of us.

I think Merriam is helpful. Most people use the belong in the sense of a part or member of a family.

In that sense, your children belong to your family.

An assertion that I own my children, would put me in the nut category!

Your attention is a valuable commodity. In a sense, you become what you pay attention to.

Give some mental space to those who sacrificially serve the public.

Officer Osmar Rodarte deserves our thanks.

About a 1/3 of the #cabudget is federal funds and 75% of that is health and human services.

Dude drives ratings and there is no way to determine what people heard based on the words that come out of his mouth.

We live in a meme world.

Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Ethiopia and South Africa make up half of Africa's GDP.

Haven't thought about Africa much lately and spending a few minutes with this map was helpful.

Another fake #retwit account.

The community is being targeted.

Sounds good! We have to recover that intimacy.

My thinking has been informed by C.S. Lewis The Four Loves.

I've never seen another treatment of love for pets, friends, romance and God.

A good #booksky has precise thinking that sticks with us.

Racial conversations are hard.

For most of my life most Americans did not approve of interracial marriage.

If you imagine that the people contained that hostility to answering a poll question, I feel bad for you.

Same if you think nothing's changed.

The Worst Hard Time is a compelling history of the "dirty thirties". The kind of book you can't put down.

Can you share a book you read that changed how you see yourself or the world?

Power and money are not the same motivations.

Being in the room and making the decision is one joy.

Profiting from the decision is a different joy.

Trying to blend the two leads to misery.

When the time comes, do you want to be the guy in the photo?

Do you imagine that you are the hero in the picture?

Are you doing exactly what everyone in your social circle is doing?

Don't be a sheep.

The most important tip I have for dealing with government agencies? They are incredibly proud of their work.

Government contracting is complicated. But there are dozens of government employees committed to helping businesses navigate the process.

They deserve our appreciation.
