It's not just "consumer smart" it reduces environmental waste, key materials are often mined in slave conditions. The whole tenor of the article is wrong - why is the economy so dependent on us engaging in mass waste?

2 ongoing convos are dovetailing rn:
1. a holiday shopping $ blackout aimed at big business;
2. worry over small presses closing or paring down.

Let's talk direct action: YOU CAN DO BOTH😀

IT'S VITAL TO SUPPORT indie pubs that encourage risk & diversity. Here's a 🧵 of em you can support directly:

Thrilled to announce this ground-breaking new book, Area X: The Southern Reach Files! The Central agent in question is, of course, Hargraves from Absolution. The book includes some new ways of approaching storytelling, and also I hope will be satisfying in lots of other ways. More in a thread. 1/?

Wooooow.

Unbound/Boundless didn't have enough cash to pay their authors, but they did have enough to throw thousands at a Tory's leadership campaign.
I spotted it around the time on the Commons register of interest.

Big, somewhat leftfield news: I am kicking off a podcast with the wonderful @emmanewman.bsky.social under the title Starship Alexandria. It's a cosy book and film recommendation show where we take it in turns to rec things to one another and discuss them.

I am hugely grateful to these well-informed fantasy fans for taking the time to write these letters rebuking The Guardian for that asinine 'romantasy' opinion piece.

Letters: Responding to an editorial about the surge in romantasy books, James Latimer writes that romance isn’t only for girls, and Yvonne Williams talks about the synergy of dragons and sex

Reading on this bus ride home; is it cool or terrifying that when I turned to this page of In That Endlessness, Our End, the exact song mentioned on the page was playing through my headphones.

Rachel Johnson wanted him buried whilst he was mostly known as a trans ally.

Now that same community has turned on him for being a sex predator - now he's just a "cancelled" sex predator and she's a big fan.

It's why she stood by her brother and his pals after all these years after all.

Introducing myself on Bluesky with a stack of my favourite books from 2024. It's a good cross-section of the genres I like to read and I think sums up my tastes quite well.
