Robert Duval was in some very good movies. One of my favorite movies he is in will always be Secondhand Lions.

I'm still writing code the hard way. I'm slow. I like to think critically about every line of code and fiddle with variable names until everything looks right. I treat code as a liability and try to ship only what's necessary.

It's hard to imagine writing code any other way.

Rob Reiner was a good guy. He made a lot of movies about good guys, in worlds where not everyone was good and you didn’t have to be good. He made movies about people trying. He was angry, as many hopeful people are. He knew the world could be better and he wanted it to be. His death is devastating.

It has been my thesis for a couple of decades now that people don't read, don't know how to read, don't know that they can't read and the same goes for numbers.
ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

My mom, who has a Master’s in Library Science, taught me indexing when I was a kid, I learned basic assembly language coding as a teen, and I took semiotics in college. And *I* usually can’t get these AI “helpers” to return accurate, useful query results!

Conclusion: they just fcking suck!

The safer you are in an environment of rising authoritarianism, the more obligation you have to make some noise on behalf of the people who are more vulnerable than you. Indeed, this is the only way you might avoid having the leopards eat your face.

being obsessed with IQ is a good sign that you have nothing in your life to give you actual meaning. (also a good sign you have bell curve-esque beliefs about human equality)
Coming around to the view that a certain kind of narcissist simply needs Musk to be a genius rather than a fraud, because they want to believe there’s a hereditary Brahmin class of accomplished, beautiful minds—and that they’re a part of that class.
