For #FossilFriday, abundant & exquisitely preserved fossil insect cocoons in the Late Cretaceous (~75 myo) Two Medicine Formation, Montana. Tracemakers were likely solitary wasps nesting in soils next to & otherwise near dinosaur nests in the same area. 🧪⚒️🪨 #ichnology 1/2
Gray limestone with dozens of small (10 mm wide, 20 mm long) elliptical fossil insect cocoons sticking out of the outcrop, human hand (mine) to the left as scale. Cocoons were in the Late Cretaceous (~75 million years old) Two Medicine Formation of northwestern Montana. I'll tell you what's due a comeback: cosy coffee shops. Over the last decade and a half the idea took root that the quality of coffee served was usually in inverse proportion to the physical comfort of the space — hence our sparse, industrial/Scandi cafés with awkward seating. Bring back the couch!

In that same book, Hegseth talks of how he was one of 12 Nat'l Guard members Kept from Biden's inauguration due to extremism. He says it was due to his Jerusalem Cross tattoo, but I'm betting it was his tattoo of Deus Vult, the rallying cry of the 1st Crusade in 1099 - and White Supremacists today.

The House is set to vote TODAY on new legislation that could give the Treasury Secretary the unilateral and unprecedented authority to go after nonprofits that the White House disagrees with.

The bill is anti-democratic and must not pass.

This is a photograph of my great uncle, Jim Ida, in 1942. The photograph was taken by Dorothea Lange as part of her documentation of the Japanese American incarceration. He is sitting with his family’s bags, waiting to be taken to an internment camp. (Tanforan, I believe.) He was 17.

This was a fireball meteor at 5:00 AM from Mauna Kea, Hawaii on November 9th, 2024. It turned the sky a very bright teal for a second before leaving a persistent train.
