Vital Cat Update
It’s time to talk about my cat. To which you might be saying, “Chuck, I didn’t know you had a cat!” and I’d respond with, “I didn’t know I had a cat either…

Tom Cotton & John Boozman have been lying to Arkansans about the shutdown.
They clearly dont care if you are furloughed right before the holidays nor if you can feed your kids or not.

100% manufactured crisis by the Republican party. #arpx #arbluedots

This is a fine list; I follow a lot of these folks already.
The GFRobot article about Star Trek fans being majority male/conservative is still going around several days later, so I was to say 1) don't click on it or they will "write" more just like it & 2) the site is known trash.

Here's my Star Trek Feminist Community starter pack!

Prof. Mark Bray of Rutgers University and his family were blocked from leaving the U.S. At the airport, after getting boarding passes, they learned their tickets had been mysteriously cancelled.

He was relocating the family fleeing death threats catalyzed by Turning Point USA and others.

Shoot me, I had rough drafts for my 55 comp 1 students due on the same day as philosophy PowerPoints, and comp 2 final drafts....save me.

I have a huge number of comp 1 rough drafts coming in, 57 high school students online. I think I shall need a lot of Tylenol.

Always wondered what happened to Officer Tackleberry
This morning (9/1) at 8 AM feds pulled over a couple at 18th & Park NW. They smashed the window, dragged the husband out & arrested him. When a community member stopped to record they were grabbed & threatened w/ pepper spray by this piece of shit. @mayorbowser.bsky.social do you welcome this too?

So it's the end of week one, and it has indeed been a cluster. I've ended up with one in person comp 2, 4 online courses, including a 55 student Comp 1 full of high school students, 3 independent studies. Pray for me.

Having to copy/import blackboard sections because Workday integrated with it and created new shells. Arrrrgh.
August 26, 2025 at 3:35 PM
Tomorrow is the first day of classes, so tomorrow the university system is integrating all Workday and Blackboards for all the schools in the system. This is going to be a cluster$#&*.

This is great: a National Guardsman standing up to say every member of the National Guard and military "is legally obliged to disobey an illegal order."
My name is Captain Dylan Blaha, and this message is for members of the National Guard across the USA.
I've served in the Illinois Army National Guard for over 12 years, including a deployment to Afghanistan and three years on active duty in Europe.
What's going on right now is not normal.

So, a colleague has about 90 students in an online Comp 1 section, so they decide to split the section, and give me (person with seniority) the new section. The section has yet to be split and a new Blackboard shell has not been created. Can we say fubar?
August 23, 2025 at 3:55 PM
So we start classes Monday, and today, Workday and Blackboard were integrated and now, we have a new set of set of shells for fall. Siiigh, academic bureaucracy.

The state has thrown open the comm college doors to high school students. I can tell there will be chaos because I suddenly have 11 rosters for 6 classes...and a roster for a class that didn't exist until past Wednesday. Chaos.

I've been randomly rewatching Midsomer Murders, and it's interesting how often children/teens are murdering evil. It's certainly different from the "all children are good" mindset.
