I got “Nothing in the Basement” by @romiesays.bsky.social at Readercon. I sped through it and can’t stop thinking about it. Absolute banger of a haunted house story. 🏚️ #amreading #horror

I'd also like to share the medieval belief that weasels conceive through the ear, and since Mary was said to conceive Jesus at the word of Gabriel, they were a symbol of Mary.

When I talk about movies, I always mean live action. I like animation, but it's hard for me to remember that's in the same category; for me it isn't, any more than a painting is a photograph or a rock concert is a symphony or a stage play is a dance or The Pitt is anime.

I think there are only two movies I care about that were released in 1950: Sunset Boulevard and Harvey.

I don't think either of them won much of anything at the Oscars; All About Eve pretty much swept.

And so ok I guess there is a third movie I like from 1950

exhausted because I spent too much of the day in the cold

(yes, I dress properly, and no this does not magically negate my thin-skinned, proportionally high surface area, low-blood-pressure body needing to torch itself to stay conscious)

I noticed in another comment you assert that meaning is "encoded within the text itself", and I actually believe this is wrong as well.

"This raises the question of where the meaning is" I would say the meaning is within each person who shares that language.

You guys I think this might be the color of my personal hell. An eternity in an open featureless space that stretches forever made entirely of atmosphere where it is slightly damp and 2-3 degrees too cold to be comfortable

the hater's council just vetoed this actually.

"a real hater hates attention seekers by ignoring them" wise words from one hater elder.

"hate reading is for homework dorks" said another senior hater on condition of anonymity as this statement was a compound diss targeting other council members

If I had a Spotify Wrapped, it would show that I've listened to a lot of Mike Duncan podcasts about the French Revolution and ensuing revolutions triggered by the French Revolution.

I mostly listen to music on CDs. I have accidentally continued to be hard to remotely surveil.

Read my surgery notes and my surgeon describes me as "a pleasant woman" and now every time my partner says I'm being annoying (I am very bad at resting) I say "NOT POSSIBLE! I'VE BEEN DIAGNOSED AS PLEASANT" which I understand has only increased the rate of incidence of my being annoying but whatever

*goes to a natural history museum and holds up a bouquet to an Allosaurus skeleton so they can finally see some flowers*
I don’t know a lot.

But I know a lot about dinosaurs.

Now we all know dinosaurs lived for millions of years right?

But does you mind actually wrap around how long they dominated for?

Lets get a little perspective.

Did you know Allosaurus never saw flowers but T.rex did?

To my surprise, out of nowhere on Wednesday, I started writing a cosy queer urban romantasy book. It's extremely sexual so far, because I remain at base a science fiction writer, meaning my first thought is "ok but when you're hooking up with a flower fairy what's the biology"

bread is ultraprocessed

also if you dig into the studies about what makes ultraprocessed food bad, it's that it tastes good. You'll voluntarily eat more granola than you'll eat unflavored oatmeal.

literally that's the finding. hot off the presses: portion control
