This is how I *hear* his letter:

How have you been, everyone?
These days, it almost feels out of place to ask how you’re doing
but as I’ve been spending each day, one after another
sending them off again and again
suddenly, here we are—
December already, with winter in its full embrace
잘 지내시는가요 여러분
How have you been, everyone?

안부 묻기가 무색한 요즘이지만
Though these days, it feels awkward to even ask how you are

하루하루 보내고 보내고 하다보니
As I keep spending day after day*

*If translated for rhythm: Day by day, as I keep sending them off and sending them off

In short: this fucker really just threw multiple grenades at the Korean economy, our diplomatic standing with other countries, and the pretty dire situation with the medical strike. And all of that is hitting me *after* I somewhat process how horrific the National Assembly situ could have been.

One of the aspects (of which there are many!!!) that’s getting a ton of attention in Korea rn is the specific verbiage used in the martial law declaration.
1) The first clause *started* by banning all political activity and shutting down all national/local level assemblies (legislatures).

We need to wait for the president’s response. If he does not respect the vote (which he must according to the constitution), the National Assembly can vote for impeachment, requiring a 2/3 vote to be successful

So now, I can breathe out and wish the sweetest angel on earth a safe, peaceful, and happy birthday. Seokjin, my dearest, wishing you, always, only the best of days and the calmest of nights 🌙 May happiness shine for you and love bloom wherever you are 💜

National Assembly member and SNU constitutional law scholar Cho Kuk is making a statement to the press using strong words—the president needs to stand down the declaration IMMEDIATELY, to ignore this is tantamount to a military rebellion, the declaration ITSELF was illegal and he must answer for it

It’s wild to think that a president could exploit the loophole of declaring martial law to block the assembly from convening to institute a dictatorship.

A democracy rescued by a crowd gathering outside a building and 190 representatives who luckily weren’t asleep…

Please please please may it be the end of it
CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA, 77(5):

"When the National Assembly requests the lifting of martial law with the concurrent vote of a majority of the total members of the National Assembly, the President shall comply."

According to Korean constitutional law, if martial law is declared in a state of non-war, the National Assembly can vote to make the president stand it down. The National Assembly is gathering now.

We are just now getting footage of inside the National Assembly.

A good thread to understand what's going on
Not a lot of detail, in what would seem to be a rather important story.

It's so scary, god, I hope the opposition takes over and impeaches that piece of sh1t ASAP. I can't help but worry about our boys caught up in the middle of it, but may women, children, every innocent citizen remain safe

About 30+ minutes ago, President Yoon declared emergency martial law against "antistate" forces. He said that there might be some inconveniences to law abiding citizens during this period of time but that he would try to minimize them.

What’s going on in Korea?

The president declared martial law in an unexpected late-night address. He justified the decision by citing threats from NK and accusing the Democratic Party of destabilizing the govt through attempts to impeach prosecutors & reject the budget.

Martial law can be lifted with an emergency national assembly vote. Yoon appears to have tried to block this by closing off the assembly building with police vans but it has since been breached. Majority leader Lee has arrived for the vote.
