Remember when i said we're living in the scariest parts of a Gibson novel thanks to a bunch of dudes who misunderstand Gibson's novels?

Well now I want to discuss the verified govt accounts spewing rightwing propaganda— possibly via a bot-run troll farm— & why you should block them for your safety.

TERRORISM EXPERT HERE:

This statement is a clear example of what is known as “State Terrorism”: When the dictatorship will order all instruments of its state security & intelligence apparatus against its own citizens to terrorize the population.

wild to see a Western president say this after listening to scholars say this for over a decade lol
Macron remarks are notable- some quotes: "We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks that are controlled either by large American entrepreneurs or large Chinese companies, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies."
President Macron: “Europeans, let's wake up!

We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks.”

Reading articles about ICE in Chicago. The whole thing is fucked up and brutal but this line will stand out for the rest of my life

"In one room, there were zip tied and blood stains on the floor next to baby shoes"

But we can't call them nazis or fascists or neo confederates for some reason.

🪸Habitat loss triggers a social chain reaction: adult reef fish crowd onto remaining coral, then spill over onto dead coral - and juveniles follow. This study reveals a novel, socially driven “bandwagon effect” that may lead to ecological traps. ➡️ buff.ly/MnxFMFK

How do tree seedlings respond to multiple climate stressors?🌴

📖Our meta-analysis shows that CO₂ boosts growth, but only if drought isn't present. The combination of CO₂, drought and temperature mainly had additive effects🌳

This is the same pathology applied to mass shooters and terrorists. This is the beginning of the move to force medical bodies to pathologize trans people as inherently prone to violence and dangerous.

Excellent reporting from Heated and Atmos.

It looks like some of the biggest investors in the anti-trans movement are fossil fuel billionaires who are trying to use trans issues to ensure that Republicans pass policies favorable to their industry.

I often wonder if white scholars have any idea what any of this feels like. If they have to spend weeks distracted by hate mail and death threats. If they have any clue how different we are.

I spend so much of my time fighting to exist. My rights are always conditional. Their's are just a given.

The reason the specific comedians that were loud before are now silent is because what's occurring is consistent with their politics

It's been said for years that the comedians that say their free speech is being impugned from atop a stage with a mic were really saying they should be above reproach

I believe this to my core. They're using trans people as a test case to dismantle individual rights in the US.
Trans rights are not the rights of a tiny minority, trans rights are everyone’s rights to self-determination, control of our bodies, and a society where opportunity and aesthetics are not restricted by sex assigned at birth

You should support and defend trans people because trans people are people

Very simple in systems theory perspective:

When you control communications,
you control the systems.

You can't control, because it is too complex, but you can irritate or channel communications and "direct" emergence.

So, it's a big problem when few people "own" the communication of the many.

Ta-Nehasi Coates is doing a lot of things with this essay, but one of the most important is fearlessly using examples of anti-trans hate to describe Charlie Kirk's politics.

The contrast between his choices and those of other writers for major legacy outlets is revealing.
Charlie Kirk, Redeemed: A Political Class Finds Its Lost Cause
By ignoring the rhetoric and actions of the Turning Point USA founder, pundits and politicians are sanitizing his legacy.
