The Trump Admin is wantonly abusing executive power & conducting warrantless spying.

But Congressmembers including Dan Goldman handed him the ability to do it by voting against a warrant requirement for using NSA surveillance of U.S. citizens last year.

Dan Goldman Supported Warrantless Spying on Americans. Now His Primary Opponent Is Hitting Him for It.
New York Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman and others helped hand Trump warrantless spying powers. Now, that vote is an issue in their upcoming primaries.

They’re totally that boorish drunk guy at the concert who spills his beer on you then when you say “dude you spilled your beer on me” tries and fails to punch you in the face with a wild swing that has the oaf losing his balance and falling on his face in the same puddle of beer he spilled on you
To recap:
*The Trump administration illegally renamed the Kennedy Center. They broke the law.
*Now they are suing a guy who refused to perform because of the name change for $1 million.

This is the world Justice Kavanaugh sanctioned in his foolish & unnecessary concurring opinion to the Court’s order in Noem v Vasquez Perdomo. His hopes of cleaning up that blunder with a plaintive footnote in last week’s concurring opinion in Trump v. Illinois, demonstrates his staggering naïveté.

Blame the Roberts Court
Yesterday, multiple Cabinet officials and agencies posted overtly religious messages from U.S. government accounts.

It’s clear the Trump White House is willing to disregard the Constitution in many respects, and the separation of religion and state is just one of many recent examples.

Howie reached out to me when I launched my campaign in April to grill me on policy, but I insisted on extracting all his rock stories and gushing to him about @crooksandliars.bsky.social’s central place in my mid-aughts political awakening. I am so lucky to have known him, even if just for 8 months.
My good friend Howie Klein passed away today and I am bereft. He was a fierce progressive, music impressario, creative organizer, passionate world traveller and the mensch of all mensches.

Howie always fought the good fight and inspired many to do the same. I will miss him terribly.

Merry Christmas from our family to yours! If presents or cookies are missing, it may be because these two Santa’s helpers ate them, but don’t worry they are still on the nice list, we checked… twice!

Just because MAGA’s ideological ilk had been able to smuggle Brutus and John Calhoun and the Stars and Bars back into the Stars and Stripes doesn’t mean they get to keep them there.
I wrote about the conservative quest to restore the "true" Constitution, the Antebellum Constitution, shorn of the egalitarian nonsense in the Reconstruction Amendments, a document that replaces equality with a society of dominators and the dominated. www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

Let’s not forget that the whole reason this case exists is bc Trump newly politicized post-Election Day counting of valid votes as a bad thing for his own disinformation and destabilization purposes and Republican lawyers went retcon saying that’s how it always should have been because originalism
Nice piece here from Nick Corasaniti and @christinezhang.bsky.social on the voting case SCOTUS agreed to hear that is getting less coverage than Callais — but is coming up quickly

Poor @lawler4ny, left at the altar again. Guess you're stuck with #NY17 where you'll have to defend your record slashing Medicaid, gutting SNAP & letting the ACA tax credits expire. Hudson Valley voters spoke at the ballot box last month--they'll be screaming for change in 2026. #Take17 #FightLawler

Wow. Last used ~1934, inherent contempt would in effect bring Bondi to trial in the House & by majority vote empower the House to put her in jail. Far more effective than other options (criminal referral to her own DOJ or endless civil litigation), it'd be a huge bipartsan stand against the Admin.
BRENNAN: What are you going to do to force DOJ to comply?

MASSIE: The quickest way and most expeditious way to get justice for these victims is to bring inherent contempt against Pam Bondi. That doesn't require going through the courts. We're drafting that right now.

There’s no one with the charisma to command Trump’s cult of personality when he’s gone, and no amount of full-tilt Christian Nationalism will change that.

But Vance will def cry fraud and refuse to open up the envelopes on 1/6/29 should he be the Republican nominee and lose the electoral college.
