Silvertone-Harmony - model H42-Newport Metallic Green, solid body, electric guitar. This is an extremely rare, Silvertone, Newport, solid body, electric guitar made by Harmony of Chicago (Harmony model H42) from circa 1953. It's fully functional. The neck is straight and thick. All the electronics work properly. It's 100% original. The original rubber bumper binding is all there and in excellent shape. The guitar has stacked volume and tone controls along with a tone-defeat switch. The sound is rich. This is a small scale guitar. When you play this guitar you'll feel like you're there with Les Paul inventing the first sold body "slab" guitar. It comes with a gig bag. Both players and collectors will appreciate this guitar. This is an early 1960’s Silvertone 1423 Jupiter made by Harmony of Chicago. The Jupiter 1423 is the top of Harmony’s Stratotone line. The body style is similar to a Les Paul. It has DeArmond pickups, beautiful mother-of-pearl block inlays on the neck, a black finish speckled with rich gold color and the “Blender” control which regulates the bass and treble pickups. The fast action feels good on the fingers. This guitar features a set list on its back from perhaps a rocking gig in its long and interesting history. Listen to the stories this guitar can tell you with its sweet tone. Other than some very little wear on top of the headstock, this guitar looks really good, plays beautifully and sounds excellent. It’s suggested this Ancient Greek terracotta vessel in the shape of a lobster claw was used as a drinking horn at parties!

My photo shows an ancient Greek red-figure terracotta vase with a body in the shape of a lobster claw. The vase is painted with black glaze. On one side are five knobly bumps or ‘spines’, on the other side is painted a red donkey (not shown). The vessel has a vertical neck with funnel-shaped mouth and outsplayed rim. There is a strap handle from the bottom of the neck across the length of the vase which attaches just before the claw’s pincers. The inner side of the pincers is warm red terracotta. Around the handle base there is a decorative red pattern. The vessel is displayed on a pale beige fabric. Dimensions: 7 x 7.3 x 15.9 cm. On display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The Met label reads: Greek, Attic, red-figure, ca. 460 BC. Attributed to the Class of the Seven Lobster-Claws Donkey; keras (drinking horn). Because so many aspects of Greek life depended on the sea, a vase in the shape of a lobster claw is not surprising. It is, however, exceptional and may be a variant of the askos— a bag-shaped oil container provided with a vertical mouth and strap handle. The Dionysiac iconography of the lobster claw suggests that it was a novelty item used at symposia (drinking parties).

This Silvertone was made by Harmony of Chicago in the Spring of 1959 as a part of their Stratotone line which included the Jupiter 1423. This particular guitar, the Mars, (its Harmony number: H45), is very rare and it is the earliest model. It features a hollow, tone chamber construction, a sunburst finish with white binding, one single coil pickup, a single cutaway, a white plastic pickguard on which the pickup and instantaneous tone switch are mounted, one white plastic strap pin, an adjustable rosewood bridge and a hinged, metal trapeze-style tailpiece. This guitar is 100% original and in good condition. It still looks lovely after approximately 56 years of existence. With its super fantastic fast action and terrific tone, this guitar plays like a dream. It comes with hardshell case. Get this really rare guitar before someone else does.
