You know what stops the spread of the flu?

A respirator.

N95 or better.

Worn on transit, in indoor public spaces, and crowded outdoor areas.

Even better if you add an air filter indoors.
More than 4,500 New York residents were hospitalized with the flu last week — marking the highest number ever recorded in a single week, health officials said: gothamist.visitlink.me/BU4t_3

In 2026 I want all of the decent people to remember one thing.

You aren’t meant to be this disciplined, this self-sacrificing to survive. The environment is supposed to support good living. We can have that. You are not a failure. That is politics.

That is all.

Fun Fact: One of the reasons Square was pushed to improve its localization practices in the 2000s is because Alexander O. Smith showed them reviews proving that people *cared* about translation quality. (Link to the full interview: web.archive.org/web/20091113...)

F) For the love of all that is good and holy stop wondering if your idea is any good! That way lies madness. Your idea, whatever it is, will live or die by its execution. Commit to your idea. Eat and drink your idea. Play with it, have fun with it.

In 2026 there will be more mass media articles and commentators ridiculing people taking precautions to avoid SARS-CoV-2 infection while simultaneously hundreds of pieces of research will be published further demonstrating the long-term harms of infection.

Ignore the ridicule.

I'm old enough to remember when smoking around others was socially acceptable, in restaurants, bars, workplaces etc. Secondhand smoke was everywhere.

We changed norms once we accepted that shared air = shared risk.

Airborne viruses are no different

A very Happy New Year to you all. If you're still mitigating against infection from SARS-CoV-2 you have nothing but my respect and admiration. Wishing each and every one of you a wonderful 2026.

shorts make no money and generate no real channel growth but everyone feels like they gotta make 'em anyway. You don't! It's fine!
My YouTube shorts got 662,000 views last year and the ad revenue from them was $140 lol
A couple of Youtubers I watch have done videos now about how their views are way down, and how Youtube is prioritizing short form, clickbait titles/thumbnails, and "videos that start in the midst of the action" and *my god* all I hate all three of these.

This is the opposite of what I like.

Man I remember reading this as a kid and had this new, different kind of melancholy. Like I was sad it was over but it really couldn't have ended any better and I knew that. Really beautiful work
Not only a perfect denouement, it was the end of an era. Thirty years ago today, this strip was published.
